I am currently 33 weeks and have had recurring ovarian cysts for the last 6 years and currently have 2 that now measure 22cm together, they were originally filled with endometriosis but it seems the pregnancy has cleared that up.

I have been advised to have the surgery at every stage whilst seeing a specialist but as the chance of me falling pregnant was so very slim i was not willing to take the chance.

they are still huge but the only pain i feel from the cysts is the baby kicking them, otherwise my baby is now big enough that should the operation be necessary to avoid serious health risks to me or baby, he/she has a 95% chance of survival.

Im glad I took the risk, but would have been less willing if I wasnt seeing a specialist.
The cysts can be painful at times, and i know the first time hearing about them is scary and can make you more prone to get the surgery.
but these (when I have the surgery after the baby) will be my 3rd set of cysts, each time they come back they are worse.
BUT.. you can live with them for a while & the pains wont be so important when you are enjoying your pregnancy. They can swell till they pop...but they can also just increase in size with little chance of bursting. Iv had these for 18 months & my baby is now using them as pillows.

Dont let fear force your decision. Just firmly request that your doctor refers you to a specialist OBGYN and trust your instincts, they are bizarrely in tune with your body when you are carrying.

GOOD LUCK

Hi. I recently had surgery to remove a complex cyst.  Well, I lost my entire ovary.  I was 18 weeks pregnany during the surgery.  Everything went excellent.  I am now 20 weeks prego and my surgeon called three days ago to say no cancer!  Please, keep faith that everything will be okay!  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use

I am also in the same boat as alot of you listed above, honestly it makes me feel better! I am pregnant with my first baby and during my 7 week ultrasound they found a large mass and found out it was a cyst the size of a six month pregnancy! i am going in for surgery august 19th right after my birthday! i think daddy is more scared than me! altho as the time ticks by i get more and more nervous for my lil unborn baby! they will have to make a large incision and remove the mass that is making me look farther along than i actually am. they will also be removing my overie!!! nooooo i want more kids but luckly i can work a little harder with the remaining overie i will be left with. i am just sooooo greatfull that i am having this ONE baby. i just hope and pray it works out for all of us! i will be taking 4-6 weeks off work!! 1gaaaaa that is going to be hard i need my money! but also know my health and my baby comes first!!! i will try to let you guys know how it goes and also i have the best man ever he will be taking me to the hospital and also spending the whole time and night with me there. it is great to have him by my side! i still dont understand how i have this large mass growing in me and it took an ultra sound to find it!! it is really large like a basketball and i am a very tiny girl they said they cant drain it because it had lots of lines in it as if it is multiple that had joined together!! yikes!!! boy the pain us ladies have to suffer!!

p.s my moter just had an 11lb cyst removed they removed all her woman parts due to finding more when they did surgery

my grandmother had a 6lb one removed and my sister had them but they are tiny and pop on their own!!! poor family!

GOD BLESS US ALL AND OUT LIL SURVIVING TOUGH ANGELS!!

I found out I had a 17 cm cyst when I was 7 weeks pregnant at my first ultra sound. My doctor referred me to a cancer specialist as there is always a possibility the cyst can be cancerous. The cancer specialist told me I had to get this cyst removed as it could cause complications with the baby growing and scheduled surgery for when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I was so scared that I decided not to tell my family I was pregnant until after i had the surgery since there is a possibility of total pregnancy loss due to the surgery. Thank God I had the surgery as scheduled and was out of the hospital that same afternoon that I had the surgery. I was walking that same day and the pain was almost gone by 48 hours after the surgery. God was on my side and the baby is still doing great as I am 28 weeks pregnant now and have had no complications. I walk a lot and eat very healthy of course as with the surgery the doctor said it's very possible i will go into pre term labor. The worse thing that happened is that I lost my right ovary but I still have the left one and the baby has enough room to grow until she is ready to come out :)

If you have to go through this just make sure you trust the doctor that is doing the surgery. I have 2 very small incisions each less than an inch in size and that was enough to pull my ovary through and drain the cyst to get rid of it. I feel very blessed.

This blog has been so helpful to me over the past few weeks.  My daughter age 30 went in for her first doctor apt. and they found a 10cm. cyst on her ovary.  They wanted to wait until she was 16 weeks before surgery.  At 16 1/2 weeks she had her surgery and the cyst was gigantic.  On the scan it looked like 20 cm. but I think it was larger.  They did the surgery without a general and with just a spinal block.  I wish we had known this then my daughter would have brought a headset.  It was quite stressful.  Three doctors and four nurses were in the surgery for an hour and a half.  They drained two liters of fluid, took out her ovary and fallopian tube and put her back together.  She spent three days in the hospital and is now home.  The surgery was a week ago today.  The cyst was a Dermoid that was made up of thyroid tissue.  At first they suspected cancer but all the pathology is back and she is clear of that fear.  Thank God!  This has been draining for all and my daughter is very weak.  However, the baby seems fine and we are past the most crucial time for miscarrying which is the first week. They said 28 weeks is the only time you are for sure safe.  If anyone has a question you can email me at _[removed]_.  Please put in the subject area - pregnancy.

At my first ultrasound at 2 weeks the doctors found a large mass in my left ovary.  My doctor thought it was best to remove it, but had me wait until my 12th week.  I am 12 weeks pregnant and just had surgery to remove a softball size dermoid cyst in my left ovary.  Although I am extremely sore, the surgery went well and baby is fine.  They made three small incisions removed the cyst and were able to save my ovary.  I went in early in the morning and was home by the afternoon.  I can't thank my doctor and wonderful nurses at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut enough for taking such great care of me and my baby.

I moved to washington state in january from hawaii, for better health care as I found out when I had my gallbladder removed that I had 2 cyst on my right ovary they took pictures of them measured at 19cm when they took out my gallbladder in january, not knowing if they are cancerous but that I needed to have them removed I moved back to the seattle area for better medical attention and my family being here to help with my children I already have, I am a 38 year old mother of 4 it took me 3 months to acquire medical insurance and now that I am ready to go to have them removed, I found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant, I never expected to have more children, my youngest is 9 years old, my oldest is 22, I don't believe in abortion and my boyfriend is ecstatic about the pregnancy even though we are passed our prime child bearing years, this will be his first biological child, after reading all these stories I'm definitely in fear, for this pregnancy ovarian cancer runs extremely sick in my family, I am 1 of 2 wimen who have not had a full hysterectomy by the age of 35 in my family, given the odds I am fairly certain that this is cancerous and I will have to have my right ovary removed as planned previously before the pregnancy, I am afraid waiting any longer if in fact the cyst's are cancerous the longer I wait to have this removed iris the spread of cancer further, but having it removed to early in pregnancy as I am only 5 weeks will cause damage or miscarriage to my pregnancy... does anybody have any recommendations or ever been through this process or somewhat similar situation??? Best wishes to all of you, these decisions aren't easy, and nothing is guaranteed...

I too have a cyst on my right ovary. I found out that I had it when I was 20 weeks pregnant, and I had no clue I ever had one. My doctor told me after they got the results back form my ultrasound and she said it was nothing to worry about because it is only 6cm. Well almost 2 months later she tells me she wants me to have another ultrasound to see if it is getting any larger. I am hoping that it is not, but since finding out that I have a cyst from my ultrasound and I never new about it Im not sure if it came when I got pregnant, or if I alway had it. Im wondering what is the time limit for having the surgery because if it is getting bigger I do not want to get surgery if it will harm my baby. I am only 19 years old 27 weeks pregnant, and I do not care if they cut off my ovary, or if i wont be able to have any more babies. I just want my son to be healthy!
