I am so glad to hear all of your experiences. I have had the same experience after quitting smoking. Waking up in the night unable to breathe - throat and nose closing in, very scary. THe Dr insists I am having panic attacks (I'm in my mid 40s and never had one before - and funny, these 'panic' attacks only happen when my throat and nose closes in and I cant breathe.
Also - I have developed allergic type reactions to things that never bothered me before, even my own dog and spicy foods which I have always loved.

I am sooo happy to know I'm not going crazy. I smoked for about 15 years and have been trying to quit for the last 5. Everytime I tried to quit before, I was so irrational that I had people giving me cigs so I would stop grawlling at everyone. I was horrible!! This time I am using the patches again. I don't have any cravings at all, but I actually miss smoking like it was my friend. It filled so much of my day that there is a hole and confusion left where cigs used to be. Today is day 7 with no cigs. My two main side effects are constipation and the confusion. After reading these posts, I wonder if the worst is yet to come. I am hoping that with using the patches and stepping down gradually, that I can avoid most of this. Thanks for letting me vent, guys & gals. My hubby doesn't smoke and really doesn't understand this process. 8-|

5 months for me and I'm still clearing my thoat, and I'm sleeping very soundly, 7-9 hours a night whereas I used to take sleeping pills to get 5 hours sleep. I've stopped smoking before but never had this happen , sleep is nice within reason!

2 months ago,the day my grandson was born,I quit smoking.Today I am edzactly 2 months smoke free.I quit cold turkey after 35 years of smoking a pack a day.It is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.THE HARDEST THING.I feel much better on some days,on other days I feel grumpy, tired, and in a fog.But these things pass. They always do.My husband quit along with me.So it is helpful having a partner working the program together. On my good days,I feel great.I do not have a coughing problem at all,at least not yet.But I do clear my throat often.Just a minor inconvenience to suffer on the road to recovery!!!My doctor has given me a sleep aid, because I have not been able to get any meaningfull sleep. But then,I have had insomnia for years anyway.Getting enougn rest is very important during withdrawal from nicotine.I am 58 years old and have 2 more grandkids coming.Cigaretes are no longer an option for me.I refuse to expose the children to second hand smoke, even the smoke that stays on the clothes.I get cravings everyday, but when I do,I think of my grandbabies.Quitting is not easy.Getting through it can be hell, but I am up to the challenge.I am very happy with my decision to quit, and my husband and I are saving a ton of money as well.

Hi I'm J quit smoking for quite some time theres alot to ponder, you also quit weed at the same time. when I quit cigarettes I kept drinking and smoking weed, 2 years ago (almost 3 actually). but than after quitting cigarette for 4 or 5 monthes I noticed the coughing and hacking... and came to the realization my body was expelling the chemicals from tobacco preservatives. so around that time it was too hard to drink booze aswell and made it easy to halt the drinking. ( see how i quit one thing at a time?) I know people who have lost there athsma by picking up weed. now its been almost three years since i quit both drinking and smoking cig. but with weed "I STILL FEEL HEALTHY!" maybe bacause weed was just a small fraction of all the harm that i was inflicting on myself. or my be none at all. i did some research and weed (AKA MJ) actually has healing properties. it regenerates braincells at a fast pace. now what can you do with more brain cells? well you see the brain is how you controll your "whole self" from thoughts to your heart beat to your fingertip clicking a mouse all of it! further more, with weeds healing quality it also has one negative. The majority of people who consume MJ burn it. when something is burned and smoke is inhailed so are carcinogen which also harmes you. thus MJ is bad. unless you (cook, bake, drink it as tea, or vaperize it) than you will only recieve all the healthy properties of weed, it will take away the feeling "somethings missing" from being an ex smoker, and have great deep breathing and thinking experiance of this precious thing we call life. ITS OUR CHOICE HOW WE LIVE OUR LIFE, WHICH DIRECTLY EFFECTS HOW LONG WE LIVE OUR LIVES Take care, J
