I am a 27 year old female, and I have had pain on my right side of my stomach that extends into my back. it only happens after I eat.

I eat an EXTREMELY healthy diet--I do not eat dairy or gluten and for the most part, eat macrobiotic. I noticed the symtpoms about two years ago when I gave up gluten and dairy. I exercise regularly.

I have had an ultrasound and an abdominal scan, and these were both normal. my doctors said it could be a fiber thing, but I get plenty of fiber--adding flax seeds to my diet has helped some, but I still get the pain sometimes after I eat. It makes me feel very bloated and constipated--when I am not. I have three bowl movements a day.

Could this be a mild gallbladder issue?? I just don't know since I don't eat a fatty diet and am underweight...
I am a 20 year old healthy female and had my gallbladder removed about 9 months ago. I eat healthy foods and exercise regularly and would've never imagined that I would have this problem. I found out afterwards that it is genetic though, and so far my healthy brother and cousing have also had theirs removed. So I guess anything is possible...

I kind of wish I would not have had mine removed however, as I often get diahrrea from eating the wrong foods (dairy, fatty, greasy) as well as when I exercise, it sucks. I've heard there is medicine that can breakup gallstones, so I'd look into it if you do end up having a problem with your gallbladder.

The ultrasound would have picked up a problem with the gallbladder. I also eat very healthy. I am finding out that my gallbladder problems may be genetic. My pain starts in the center of my abdomen just below the diaphram. It then shoots pain for hours on end across the upper abdomen. This starts to relieve, but the pain shoots around the back where it usually remains for a few more hours. My ultrasound showed gallstones.

The pancrease and liver are also in that area and may cause almost identical symptoms. This happening right after you eat sounds like indigestion. Try taking an otc acid reducer 30 minutes before eating. See if that helps.

I had my gallbladder out last year (21) after finding stones a year before that (20). I am vegetarian and used to be vegan and very healthy. I learned that when you loose weight, the fat that is breaking down can cause gall stones... so if you have lost weight since becoming GF or DF, that might have caused a small problem.

There is another thing you need to watch out for: Chronic infection the appendix. We tend to think of acute appendicitis, but is not that uncommon for people to have small infections over a few years that may become acute appendicitis if not taken care of. (This happened to my Mother)

If it is chronic infections, try taking your temperature when you're having pain. If its often slightly elevated, that might mean something; also, keep a journal of your pain -- if you happen to be prescribed antibiotics for something else, does that change how often you have pain?

Appendix pain can often radiate to the back and sometimes that confuses people who expect the pain to be in the front. The lower right side of the abdomen/back is where you would expect to feel this pain.

I don't know how/why it would be connected to eating, but it is still worth thinking about...
