I had LEEP done and about 2 weeks later I started bleeding from my cervix. My doctor used Monsels and sent me home. About 1 week later I had extremely heavy bleeding with large sized clots. I was having to change my pad about every 15-30 minutes. I ended up in the ER where the attending physician used monsels again and about 2 hours after discharge the bleeding resumed. I finally saw another doctor on an emergency basis and they had to cauterize the area that was bleeding. It was a nightmare but no one gave me a direct answer as to why the heavy bleeding and clots. I followed all the instructions after the LEEP procedure and this simple procedure turned into a nightmare. My question is why did I have the heavy bleeding and clots and what I could do differently now.
HI,
I had a leap 10 days ago..I was two months overdue for a period...I did what i was told as you did. I started to bleed heavy (and I don't get heavy periods) a few days ago then BOOM it stopped...then it started up off and on for two days I called docs....then last night it was bad like you every 30 min I had HUGe clots the size of my hand I was so freaked out..the oncall last night said it can happen..it can be a heavey period and leaps do change your cycle and things in your body ..

Anyhow, The doc used that stuff and I got home and it stopped right away. She said she was not sure it was the leap or a very heavy period...she said to take pervera to help stop bleeding and then if worsens or I get light headed/dizzy (anemia) go to er and they may need to do a D&C

SO now I am home she said to rest and do not do much and come back in two days. I am so nervous it will just start up again I have never seen so much blood. My results came back no anemia so for now I am resting and taking the meds. Just thought I would share my story as I am having the same thing.

I hope that is it and there is no need to to go the ER...why me!!! UGGGG

I had a leep almost two weeks ago. Today I almost fell and right after i had heavy bright read blood come out with my urine. I got really scared and i went to the er. They took blood and said everything was fine and that it is from my leep and my period. I got my period last tueday. I always have normal bleeding and it freaked me out. I was given the salt water to thicken my blood from the iv. I passed a large blood clot smaller then a tennis ball.
I felt much better right after. But i was in such shock cause i have never seen one that large..
Now i just need to make an appointment with my gyno and see whats up..
I just wanted to share my story.
Just don't freak and have panic attacks about it like me.. You are going to be ok and this will pass. :-D

first off, i am a nurse. i had a leep done 15 days ago. i had the normal spotting and everyhting you'd expect. i had my period 8 days ago and it seemed pretty normal. just when i thought it was clearing up, i started bleeding thru my pants (while at church!). when i got to the bathroom, i passed the biggest clot i'd ever seen, like tennis ball size. i'd never seen so much blood. i called my doc right away and she said no need to panic, if i was changing my pad more than every half hour then i should go to the hospital, otherwise, try and wait to see her the next morning, cause it was a sunday. so we went home, i was changing my pad every 45 min. after about 4hrs of this i called my doc again and she said if i start to feel faint or sweaty then go to the er. so, stubborn i as i am, i was going to try and wait till the next morning. my heart rate had been slightly elevated all day with bouts of shortness of breath at times. after i went to bed, i got up at 10pm to go the bathroom and almost fainted- i had to lay down on the ground so i wouldnt. then my husband said 'we're going to the er now!'. so we went, they got us right in and after about 45m i needed to go to the bathroom. my husband helped me up but while going i could feel my blood pressure dropping. i tried to make it to the bed but i apparently i passed out. the next thing i knew i was looking straight up at the doctor and my husband. they said i passed out for 20 sec- my husband thought i was dead! they finally hooked up an iv, my blood pressure was only 88/52, yikes. my blood work came back and my hemoglobin was only 8, normally its 15 in a healthy person. your hemoglobin is a reflection of your total blood count, so with me weighing 135lbs, i basically had lost a quarter of my blood, double yikes. they said if i didn't stop bleeding i was going to have to have a blood transfusion. i cried at this point cause i certainly didn't want one. they did an ultra sound and about 2am i stopped bleeding miraculously. the obgyn came at about 5am and did a pelvic exam, put a little silver nitrite to chemically cortorized (sp). they said since my bp was back to 110/62, and since i wasn't bleeding, i could go home and then see my regular doctor. i went home with some iron pills, feeling very week. its the next day now and i'm feeling a tiny bit stronger but it will take several days before i regain my energy. if you get anything from my post i hope its that, a; this occurance is somewhat normal as it does happen frequently to post leep patients, b; dont wait as long as i did if you are changing you pad so frequently! i seriously could've lost my life. and c; this is a huge pain in the ars but you'll def get thru it.

hi i just had the same procedure done two weeks ago.
i was bleeding normally after, just like a very light period but then two days ago i was in work and in the space of a second i started bleeding uncontrollably and i couldnt stop it, i had to leave work and go to the docs i was passing huge clots and he just gave me some antibiotics and pills to stop the bleeding and rccommended plenty of rest,
fingers crossed it doesnt come back it is not an experience i would like to go through again but seemingly its quite common after this procedure i just wish they warned me about it when i was having it done. :D :D :D :D

DO NOT WAIT!! GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR OR ER RIGHT AWAY. It happened to me today, apparently my period knocked off/melted the morsel and opened up the wound on my cervix. The blood vessels opened up and my doctor had to apply the morsel and he put a little bit of pressure on them to make sure they stayed. It was uncomfortable and a bit painful but nothing compared to LEEP. IF YOU WAIT, YOU WILL LOSE A LOT OF BLOOD!!!

Two weeks post Leep-I went in for the post op check up at the doctors office about 3 hour later I had so much blood comming out of me I could hardly get off of the toliet, I was also passing huge clots which at times were bigger then my hand. Called the doctor and she said to take 4 advil and lay down for 1 hour if bleeding hadnt slowed to call her back. I took the advil and layed down for a about 15 mins after this the bed as well as me was soaked in blood--went to bathroom, blood still just running out like crazy called dr back, by this time it was also running both legs upon standing--dr said to head to ER--she had called ahead to tell them we were on our way. 5 hour in er to found out I had came down with an infection post LEEP. Wish they would have told me what to watch for--just trying to take it easy now and keep on time with the meds they gave me--at least I know its normal now and I'm not as scared. Was very freaked out before I found this board.

I had a LEEP for mild cervical dysplasia 2 weeks ago and am still dealing w/moderate bleeding. A week after the procedure my gyn put monsel on my cervix which was itself traumatic. There was cramping and achiness not to mention the sheer frustration of a delayed recovery. Ultimately it helped but in the days that followed I continued to bleed. Sometimes the toilet would fill with bright red watery blood, other times I would pass small mucusy clots, and there were times when I would sit on the toilet and see no blood at all. I am really annoyed that my doctor didn't warn me that for a certain small percentage of women, bleeding can go on for weeks. I've been pretty darn good about restricting my activity too. Thankfully, I never saturated a napkin. Sometimes I feel like this will be my new normal--stuck with this indefinitely. I'm going back tomorrow for more monsel (though I think I may have just gotten my period which could change things). I'm also pissed that my doctor didn't suggest something which my dearest friend, an ob/gyn herself, did which was to take a few Advil before going in for the monsel. It's all about expectations, isn't it? Had I known it was possible that my recovery would take more than 2 weeks, I might be feeling differently. In the end, it's a HUGE nuisance and not a serious health concern but I can't wait for it to end when I can go for a big, fat, long run when I"m all better!

I had the LEEP Procedure done on March 2, 2011. For the first week or so, I experienced very litle bleeding or cramping. Week two, I began what seemed to be a regular period (although, I was taking my active BC pills) I went back to my doctor for routine follow up during the 2nd week and she said I had not completely healed yet but, everything looked fine. Two days later, I began to bleed heavily, and was passing tennis ball sized clots. I was completely saturating overnight napkins every 20-30 minutes. I called the Dr. and they seemed to think it was just my body getting back on track and said to take it easy and see what happens.. The following day it stopped, and again seemed like a regular cycle. But on Monday, it was back and was even worse! I went to the Dr. and was told that a vessel had been "nicked" during the LEEP and its likely that I had not experienced the massive amounts of bleeding because the scab was "patching" the bleeding vessel before. I had to be admitted back to hospital, and it had to be stitched. So, what should have been a routine procedure has turned into a real headache. Sorry, I went into so much detail but I was so afraid when these things were happening to me and don't wish that on anyone. I was told by my Dr. that sometimes, tehy can apply monsels and it will stop the bleeding, but sometimes they have to stitch it or it will begin again. It seems that this is very common, but we aren't being told to expect these things or what do if they should occur. Long story short, if you experience the symptoms I did, go back to your Doctor immediately. Better safe than sorry.

I had a Leep more than a month ago. I was surprised that the procedure itself was very quick and essentially painless. I felt fine for the first few days and than I got my period ( I am pretty sure it was my period because it was the time and the blood was not very bright as it would be if I was bleeding from the cervix, at least that is what the brochure said). My period usually last just a couple of days and is very very light, so when I started to bleed for more than a week and the blood became brighter and the bleeding was rather heavier, I was alarmed and I called my doctor. My doctor asked me to come in and of course I was bleeding from the cervix. I was not lifting anything, I was not exercising, and I took all the precautions as per the doctor's orders. I keep reading about leep procedures and the only thing that comes to my mind is that either I am extremely sensitive ( I am very active and exercise a lot so that would be kind of strange if I was) or my period actually triggered the bleeding. My doctor managed to stop the bleeding quite quickly, gave me antibiotics, but after for weeks after I felt weak, heavy in my stomach and generally not myself. Gradually I felt better but I would never expect that the recovery from what I thought was a simple procedure would take that long. I just hope that no long term damage was done to my body or my organs.

I had a LEEP 2 1/2 weeks ago.  FYI - I do not have periods any more because I had an ablation done 2 years ago.  A week after the procedure, I starting bleeding heavily and passing nickel sized clots.  I went back in and they re-catururized the cervix, applied monsel, and gave me antibotics.  Then a week and 1/2 after that I started bleeding twice has heavy as before with the clots the size of a small fist.  I ended up in the ER (of course it happened late on a Friday).  The doc there used silver nitrate to seal the leaks in my cervix and applied more monsel.  I'm 3 days past that.  So far, no bleeding - just mild cramping and tiredness.  I am also anemic, so I've doubled my iron to try to help.  I appreciate all these posts.  Wish I'd read them before the procedure.

I going for my 2 weeks and very anxious to see what happens, already started my "period" or the bleading, so far what I would recommend based on what I read is to eat a lot of food that have iron which helps when the body loses blood (Liver, carrots, beats, lentils, beans, etc, read about it) also vit C and maybe vit A which helps the absortion of iron in the body. For some reason, I read calcium, milk, wine, chocolate, grapes, vinager, etc are inhibitors of iron in the body. Def read more about nutrition and get the right nutrients for the body while we go through this changes. Do meditation or read healing self-help books, not only the physical health is important, but also the mental health is worth your time. To stop bleeding, vit K helps, but if this is only our periods coming early for some reason, or due to an invasion to our bodies (bc how do you explain we all start heavy bleeding after exactly 2 weeks of the procedure), we should let the body do its thing and give it the vitamines and nutrients it needs :)

I had my procedure done last Friday. I am a teacher and was on a field trip at a college today with my sixth graders when I started bleeding heavily. It was constantly bleeding for about a half an hour, then cooled down. About 2 hours later, I had the hand sized clots that you are all speaking of. I was FREAKING out because I had no idea what it was at the time. I'm very confused why my doctor wouldn't have told me anything about all of this, especially if it's so common. I'm still clotting and bleeding heavily and, from what I've read, it looks like I should go in to the doctor. I talked to my doctor's nurse and she said this is normal and I shouldn't have to. Should I say screw that and go in? I am not a fan of the doctor so if this will cool down, I would rather not, but I don't want to risk losing too much blood like a few of a you did! How annoying this has all been! They should make women aware of this!!!!

Don't wait too long before you go to the doc. My doc said if you're filling up a large pad more than once an hour, you need to go to the ER. When i finally made it to the ER my hemoglobin was 7. If i had lost any more blood i would have had to have a transfusion. I passed out while there and my husband said i was out fit s while. Don't wait!!
