Hi there. I have a 8 month old who was born 4 weeks prem by em-section. In the last 4 months we have been back and forth from doctor to doctor because he always seems to have a cold, coughing, whezzing, cold and clamy. Yesterday we went to the doctors again as he seemed to be coughing alot. We got to see a good doctor who had a really good chat with me and my husband. He told us that the time of year was about right for the problems we were having and the fact that he was prem made it easier for him to get poorly. My mum went though the same thing with my sister untill after 4 months they admitted that she had asmtha. We were given a inhaler to use twice a day by the doctor to stop him getting worse and used it last night for the first time. It made such a difference as he was coughing so much at night without it. He selpt so much better. Please help with some advice as we are worried he might have it. We have private health care for him. Is it worth us taking him to a doctor for a real intence check or am i just panicing??
Why not give the inhaler a chance to work for you. Your right to be concerned about your baby, but to run off and ask for an extensive workup on your baby before giving the inhaler a chance to work might be a bit premature.
If after a week the inhaler isn't making much of a difference call your doctor back and talk about the next step.
My son was born by C sec and had alot of respitory problems his first few months of life because he did not pass thru the birth canal and get all the fluids squeezed out of him. Your son being premie has the added bonus of not having fully developed lungs at the time of his birth, so he is probably taking a bit longer to adjust.
