I think I might have a hernia and I am going to the doctors after the weekend is over. Anyway, How long are you usually out of work with this operation?

Thanks
Depends- I had a large lump,Lower part of Abdomen.Had it for 12 months.Went to GP.Examined.I got a Hernia.Gp explained.Simple procedure.IN hospital a few hours.Small incision.operation finished.Wake up.Leave hospital.Re couperate quickly.Back to normal life etc.within 7-14 days days.Not so.....Woke up.Bandages below.Slowly.I mean S L O W l Y ..i got dressed...Wheel chaired out to the waiting TAXI.Slowly,i got into the back seat...Just take me home.Climbing stairs was a mental game.Eventually i got into bed..and just lay there!I dared cough.Every muscle spasm was AGONY.Every slight movement was considered...a 100 times.The pain.I was Black & Blue.3days later.Im rigid like a corpse!.Hospital had supplied me with pain killers.As much use as a broken leg!!Sitting up was IMPOSSIBLE.But one has to move..eventually.Nature calls.Climbing out/in to bed was a nightmare.Crouched over like Quassimodo..hunched over.Every step was like i`d aged 100years,The discomfort was worse than the hernia.2 weeks until i eventually could be confident enough to FUNCTION as best i could.! month .Return to work.6months later.I was OK.But i couldn`t RUN any more.If i tried.Abdomen ached.Fear of another Hernia or WORSE...tearing the original area stemmed my urge to run...for a bus etc.12 months on.Im back to normal.
I went to visit my GP.for a general check up.He asked How i was etc.Remembered my Hernia OP etc.Asked to check me out.Displayed my 8" scar.He said..Youve been CLAMPED....I said.Is that what they done.!Told him my story etc.He said..You should have not returned to work for 6months etc..Well it was unpleasant but looking back.Yes..Agony to recouperate but no choice. The scar remains.I STILL dont RUN.But im 90% fit.It DOES slow you down.FACT!..but,you will get better. The Pain..a memory, but thats life.Bedridden etc for awhile. But remember this.To ignore one at your peril.Take things SLOWW..& youll be OK.I was 46Yrs old.I know a 20yr old who recently had the same OP....He was bedridden, same story as me.....etc.Hes lucky being 20yrs old...

What happens if you just ignore a bilateral hernia?
