First of all I hope I am posting in the right forum...if not opps!!!! :-)
I am 3 weeks post-op Gallbladder surgery. Everything is going fine for now except one thing. Is it normal to be nauseated especially after I wake up? My fiancee says it is the coffee, and not eating breakfast. Just curious for those who have gone through this.

Hi:
I have not gone thru what you have, but I would tend to agree with your fiance. Some people get nauseated because they don't eat breakfast and they only drink coffee. Considering your surgery, have you tried eating breakfast before or with your coffee? Let us know if your fiancee's suspicions are correct. It sounds like she's on the right track. If you continue to be worried, contact your surgeon and see if the nausea is to be expected. Be sure to tell him about your diet. Your nutrition will affect your recovery too. Let us know what you find out. I hope that you will be feeling better very soon.

I had lingering nausea post op but it stopped within a week and a half. I think your stomach is just not quite ready for coffee with no food. Although I know very well how important that first cup is--it is the only reason to get up! If the nausea occurs only after the coffee I would suspect it is the culprit
Coffee plus no breakfast is going to be hard on your system even with a gallbladder. Without it, that might make things worse for you. Try having a bowl of cereal or a cup of yogurt before you have coffee because I think that might help you out quite a bit with your problems. Don't skip breakfast if you have your gallbladder out anyway--an irregular diet can lead to IBS-like symptoms. So keep us posted on if it works for you!
Hi Arium:
Are you feeling better now? Did the dietary advise from all of the previous posts help or did you end up having to see your surgeon? We'd really like to hear about your thoughts on the coffee. If you saw a doctor, what did he/she say? Was the nausea and the likely reaction to food to be expected? Please let us know so that we can learn from your experience.
