horrible taste in mouth 4 days after tooth extraction

This has been happening to me the past two days. My left side has also been very sensitive and sore. I went to the surgeon's office today and they ended up flushing out my mouth - the holes had been trapping food. It was an absolutely disgusting experience but now I feel so much better. They gave me a syringe to flush out my mouth after every meal to keep it from happening again.

If you have a bad taste in your mouth with strange discharge and pain.  You have a bacterial infection and need to see your doctor/dentist/or oral surgeon ASAP for antibiotics.

I have worked for an oral surgery practice 7 years. It is very common to hace a foul taste or odor after extractions. Usually it is because people don't clean or brush properly following extractions or are not rinsing their sockets with warm salt water. Another reason is the healing process. Normal healing tissue has a whitish appearance and some say foul smell. Don't listen to everyone's horror stories. Everyone has different scenarios and experiences. It's best to follow up with your oral surgeon if you are concerned and not panic from Internet drama stories!

I'm so confused I got my 4 wisdom teeth taken out, a week and a day ago, i am experiencing this bad taste in my mouth, i still cant eat anything really with my front teeth because it hurts, i have been back to the doctor 3 times and they keep saying its normwl, i want to know what i can eat and when will this taste stop, i'm so hurt by this . I hate the pain of it too. Please help. I have used salt and water, watered down mouth wash, i think i have eatten 15 mashed potatoes and not knowing how much apple sauce. im think about going to the ER. This has to stop.

I've had this as well today, it's absolutely horrible. It hasn't stopped bleeding all day either which is slightly worrying. But it's the taste and the breath that are bothering me more than anything. Smoking probably isn't helping it, bu it does seem like everything is worse since the extraction.

I have the same thing everybody has said and I'm really scared its an infection or something that involves me going back to the dentist (which I'm terrified off) :(

Anybody found out EXACTLY what the taste/smell is please?

I got my wisdom teeth removed a week ago and the taste in my mouth is awful. I almost threw up today due to it!! I had alot of mints and nothing seemed to help.

yes me too and I have been naughty I didn't smoke as much when I had pain but when I got tooth taken out I have been smoking,i cant smell or taste anything which is really worrying me now.............glad I am not alone !!!

I had the same foul taste and odor coming out of the extraction sockets along with severe pain. I went for my one week follow up appointment and told the surgeon about this and she immediately irrigated the sockets. What came our makea me nauseous thinking about it. I had to spit it out in a Dixie cup but it was brown RANCID fluid with chunks of decaying food and tissue. It smelled the whole room and the taste was horrid. It continued to pour out after she filled the syringe four times. After the pain was almost completely gone and the smell and taste was completely 100% gone. It's old rotting food and gunk deep in your sockets that smell like sh*t get a syringe immediately and irrigate them! You will be at so much relief I promise - but beware! It is DISGUSTING.

I am currently dealing with the same thing! Don't worry. At your follow up appointment your oral surgeon should give you a syringe to irrigate the holes after you eat. The problem is that food is getting trapped in the holes and is sitting there rotting. When you use the syringe.. you will be surprised as to how much nasty gunk comes out. And the smell and taste is absolutely DISGUSTING. You've been warned :)

 

Also, continue with the warm water rinses! 

I just had a tooth pulled thursday Ausust 15th and i am on antibotics, but my jaw is swollen on that side and i have yellow stuff in the hole where te tooth was pulled not to mention this nasty smell and taste in my mouth that almost makes me gag, i do not see ow it can be infected due to me being on antibotics since it has been pulled. But i am worried about it because the pai has gotten worse since the tooth was pulled, Please someone give me answers i am going to call my doctor tomorrow morning but i can not sleep because i am so worried.

Im getting the same exact symptoms. if you figured out why pls help

The Same Thing Is Currently Happening To Me! It Tastes Horrible Although I Have A Stitch Back There. It's An Openinh Beneath The Stitch And That's Where The Fluid Is Coming From! I am Disgusted ! I Can't Talk To Anyone Because They only Smell Booty Breath! I Want These Stitches Out To Get The Foul Odor Out! I Don't Know What To Do. It's Irritating Abd It Tastes So Bad To Swallow. I Am Naseaus Thinking About It.

Did u feel like the stitches on the sides hanging and getting in the way?
