It tastes like mushroom pate. My jaw is still throbbing and oozing this flavour 5 days later. When will it stop!?!

I have this persistent horrible taste in my ever since the wisdom tooth extraction. At first i thought it was the local anesthetic that oozed out on day one. But now, on the 4th day, i still feel the same horrible taste every time i try to swallow too hard. Taste disgusting.
Not sure if i have infection, dry socket or some sort of sh*t going on. And first day after my extraction, was a living hell. With throbbing and stinging pain on the area and gums. My jaw could barely open.
Just saying...

hello I recently had a bottom jaw tooth extracted and its been four days today and I am experiencing the same taste and a horrible smell coming from the extraction hole. I asked the dental assitant and she said sometimes food particles get in tht hole and begin to decay causing the taste and smell. So she told me to rinse with one cup warm water mixed with half tsp salt. Do this regularly, along with swishing with mouthwash. It has been helping but I still can taste and smell the crud. You also have to stay on antibotics because u can easily get infected in tht area. I hope this gives you a lil help.

Hello! I had my one top molar extracted on a Monday afternoon. By Friday I was experiencing a bad taste in my mouth. By Saturday the taste was so bad I it made me feel sick to my stomach. It last all day into Sinday. Sunday was worse!!! I called the doctor that afternoon and left a message saying I needed to see them bc of the taste and I had a small amount of pain. I thought it was a dry socket. However, I did have throbbing pain on the Thursday after extraction and revisiting the doctor on Friday morning and everything was fine. No dry socket. He took my stitch out to prevent so irritation. So why was I still having some pain and this god awful nasty taste in my mouth still??? I was periodically doing the warm salt water rinses like I was told.....eating soft foods. Well finally I searched the internet for answers and found that someone used hydrogen peroxide to rinse so I thought I would try it. I brushed my teeth first the best I could and then rinsed with the peroxide. Well it worked!!!! Not the first time. That only lasted about 15 min. The second time I rinsed with the Hydrogen Peroxide, I actually spit out a small peice of blood. After that happend, I didn't experience the taste anymore! I think there was bacteria from.food and dried blood stuck in the socket. Going forward for the next couple of weeks I'm going to rinse with the peroxide after I brush my teeth to prevent bacteria from forming. I never want to taste that horrible taste again! Hope this helps! Good luck!!

This might be a stupid question but how does stuff get into the hole when the hole is stitched close? Or do some surgeons leave it open?

My surgeon complete left them open. I has no stitches. I know that's sounds nice, but I think I would have rather had stitches closing it. Because of this I ended up with a dry socket(caused by vomiting because of pain meds) and food in my socket after a few days. And now I am experiencing this terrible taste in my mouth that I'm not sure is normal.

Factors that effect the mouth and cause bad breathe:
- Food stagnation between the teeth.
- Gum disease.
- Excessive bacterial activity on the tongue, possibly due to postnasal drip (catarrh coming down the back of the throat from the sinuses and nasal passages).
- A dry mouth, which can be common as we get older and is also caused by a number of medications.
- Catarrh.
- Throat or tonsil infection.

I've had this same exact problem, same part of the mouth and everything! It's annoying as this is the only tooth that still hurt and that's doing this. I suspected that I may have a dry socket but I'm going to see my dentist in a couple days for a check up.

I have that same skunk taste in my mouth. I figure it could be from fluids considering my swelling just went away.
