They gave me a syringe water shooter thing for mine. I just used it for the first time and literally so much Brown/Black c**p came out that smelled so absolutely horrible I almost threw up. But, I feel like it is 10 times cleaner and it really is a bit of a relief for me. I'll let you know if pain, taste and smell get any better.

That's completely normal with oral surgery from impacted wisdom teeth. Keep taking the antibiotics and USE THE MOUTHWASH! It's really important. It prevents any current infection from spreading and help with the taste in your mouth after a while. My problem is that I've done all of these things *this is not my first rodeo* but this one simple extraction will not let go about the taste in my mouth. It's horrible like a bad morning breath that sticks around after you've brushed, flossed, and rinsed. Hell I'm a pharmacy technician and I don't even know what to do for mine lol

Cliff notes: Use the syringe your oral surgeon provided to wash out your extraction site

I would say that is dry socket. You can see a doctor or a dentist to get antibiotics, pain killers, and they will dress the wound. Taste will go away when the infection is gone.

No need to worry, the taste is horrible but it will go away in time. do you still have any stitches in?

If so, there is food stuck in the stitches causing the bad smell and taste and that will go away when they remove the stitches. It freaked me out too, and mouth wash wouldn't work. The dentist should give you a curved syringe when the stitches come out that you can use to squirt out the nasty gunk.

A dry socket will do that too, but those are also accompanied with sharp unrelenting pain.

I had a tooth extracted on Monday, February 1st. They had to put in a couple of stitches that are still there, but i still have a hole where the tooth sat. I have this horrible taste in my mouth that will not go away. I have tried brushing, rinsing with salt water and drinking plenty of fluids, but nothing will make it go away.

Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue and what is causing it?

The same exact thing happened to me. I also thought it was because of the antibiotics. Did you ever find out why you had the 2 sysmtoms together ?

I had a tooth pulled last week. I have a mild taste in my mouth. But even water from the shower tastes the same. It's seems like my taste buds are not tasting correctly.

Old thread but wow this made me feel so much better. I have felt so alone through this experience so this is a breath of fresh air. Almost everyone gets wisdom teeth extracted and everyone makes it seem so easy. But it truly does effect everyone differenty.. I got four removed 5 days ago, but feels like 5 years (2 impacted) The taste is nauseating, the pain is excruciating, and I've never wanted inn n out burger more.. i can't eat, sleep, or talk
