I was hoping for any personal experiences and feedback. I tend to have me sugar quite well controlled and when I measure it in the morning, it tends to be in the same range and I have a really predictable response. Nonetheless, I have noticed that if I go out with friends and have a normal dinner, but drink a few beers (but not to the level to be drunk), my sugars are completely all over the place the very next morning. Anyone has similar problems? How do you tackle this?
Alcohol really isn't recommended for consumption by a diabetic just for that reason. Have you considered just drinking one beer and see if you still have uncontrolled blood glucose levels the next morning? How often do you go out and drink with your friends? If you do this frequently, I would definitely hold off on the alcohol. In addition to lowering your blood glucose, alcohol can increase your triglycerides. So I believe the chance of you have a hypoglycemic episode while you are sleeping would be increased with a night of drinking beer, no matter how much you drink. I would advise to cut down on it just to be on the safe side. Has anyone else have this issue when drinking?
