I was abruptly off of 1.0 mg a week ago because DR failed to renwe RX. It was pure hell - words scan't explain. At 70 y.o I am not going to worry about going off because I don't want to experience the hell I just went through - vomiting, headaches, slurred speech, shakiness, fearful to drive because of the side effects - at my age I am not going through this so will go to my grave on Klonopin - the chest pain and rapid heart beat was additional effects. Instead of Dr's worrying about the kick back they get from prescribing these drugs, they should think twice before prescribing. I only needed something as a sleep aid.

i was on clonipin for 4 years. i know exactly how the dr.s act when they cut you off cold turkey. they act nonchalant and dont care about the severe withdrwls. I have been withdrawling for 2 years. what the drs have done to me is cruel and unusual. when they cut me off because someone stole my backpack with my pills in them, i told the dr this and he was so insensitive, I told know why they wont tell you how ong the withdrawl will last? I have become homeless because of the drs. It was a dr who put me on these pills!!!!!! I cant even function. I cant go shopping, visit my kids,or shop. The drs have destroyed me and they dont care I hope they all burn in hell. they think its better to destroy your liver then by having to drink everyday, they think thats a better fit?? please if you have any ideas for success withdrawl. Please let me know Thank you

After telling my Dr. that I couldn't live with the withdrawal symtoms, she put me back on. I'm going to see a specialist in a couple weeks to work on being weened off of them, and to find something to replace them for my Restless Leg Syndrom.

Your post was six years ago. I detoxed in August and got off Klonphin. since then I have had varying degrees of what I thought was sinus pressure. This started about 5 days off the medicine. In the beginning it was so bad my doctor sent me for a CAT scan. I didn't think this could be related to the stopping of this drug until I read a blog by some one who also had taken this drug for years. Did you experience pressure that you could compare to the pressure of flying in your recovery period?

The Dr. put me on Gabapentin in addition to Clonazepam. As I slowly taper off the Clonazepam, I add more Gabapentin. I was told to try and go down my no more than .5 mg at a time, and if I have problems, I may need to stay with a certain mg dosage for a longer period of time, and then cut back by .25 mg. It's going to be a long process because the higher the dosage, and the longer you're on it, the harder and longer it is to get off of it. I suggest you talk to your Dr. about a step down program. Good luck.

I was on Clonazepam for 10 years, and didn't know that it is physically addicting. So when I went cold turkey, I went through hell. After the first 3 days I had a constant headache, shakes, wound up so tight that when the phone rang I'd almost jump through the roof, aches, hot flashes, chills, and diarrhea. That's when I called my Dr. and said I couldn't live with the withdrawal symtoms. I've discovered that Dr's don't seem to know that the withdrawal is nearly as bad as it really is.

I have been off for nearly 18 months and still have the pressure like you describe. Had CT scan also and showed nothing wrong. Seems to be getting worse.Did you try anything to help with this feeling?

Yes, all of my hair fell out after abruptly discontinuing klonipin.

Nothing seems to help. The pressure seems to come and go. It is so hard to have an enjoyable evening. I went out to eat tonight and the pressure was so bad I was feeling nauseous. I have contacted my doctor and have hopes of being able to get in soon to discuss this . Do you ever get the feeling your body weighs a ton? At times just going down the hall will leave me out of breath. It feels like some one has attached weight all over my body.

I knew of the dangers of getting off my meds. I went to a detox center at a hospital to help with acute with drawl. I just was not prepared for the long term side effects.

I have been off of Klonopin for about a year and still am having problems. I no longer trust doctors. I am now on Zyprexa and I just heard how hard that is to come off of if need be. I feel like I just want to throw all of these meds out the window. I was taken off of Klonopin abrupy back in November of 2011 and I can't even put into words how bad it was and still is!

Isn't that the truth. It seems like the Doctors just switch meds, and they're all physically addicting, so you end up going through constant withdrawal. Sometimes I wonder if the cure isn't worse than the disease.
