I am addicted to heroin.  I shoot up 3-5 times a day and my usual dose is 5 bags of very pure heroin with very little cut.  To put it in perspective, my cousin wanted to try the dope I get when he couldn't get any oxys, and he did 2 bags and was nodding out for 4 hours.  I have been on suboxone before, about 2 years ago.  I was started at 24mg a day, and it did help me greatly.  But as most opiate addicts know, relapse is a part of this disease.  I relapsed 8 months ago and have been doing more heroin than ever.  As of now, It has been 24 hours since my last shot, and I only have 10 suboxone so I took 1 8mg.  Almost no relief.  Doctors that tell you to wait a ridiculously long time after taking opiates are talking about opiates with a longer half life like oxy.  With heroin, Bupe can be taken 6 hours after last use with no precip. withdrawls.  Right now my whole body hurts, and I keep getting bad chills.  I have been hit by a car, stabbed, and this is worse in the sense that theres no relief, but I wouldnt say its more painful.  I think that the pain part is mostly in your head.  It would be better described as SEVERE discomfort.  I am a 21 yr old male, 145 lbs.  I wouldnt wish this upon anybody, but it is all my fault, and one must take responsibility for their actions.  I am not asking for advice, I am simply posting this with the hope that somebody will read it before making the same mistake as I did.  Pills are bad enough, and like most heroin addicts I didnt one day decide I was going to shoot heroin, it started with surgeries and pain pills.  Oxycontin was the first opiate I have ever done.  Very soon Istarted buying 80's and soon after I bought my first bundle of heroin.  I started out snorting them, but i was shooting it very soon.  So, guys, DONT DO HEROIN it will ruin your life much faster than other opiates, not to say that percs, vics, oxys etc are not also terrible.  Just wanted to share my story, hope it helps atleast 1 person.

I have almost the exact same story, started with snorting pills for about 2-3 yrs, then moved to a state where it is a lot harder to find pills and much easier to find heroin. I started snorting it then very soon after started injecting 3-4 times a day. About a half to a whole a day of very good very little cut. I have 5 suboxone, I took 4ml and very little to no relief. Couldn't stand it so I took the other half, waited an hr still no relief. So I gave in and took a whole 8mlg. I feel better, but not great. Still chills and sweats and discomfort but better. I have had these suboxones for a month just sitting there, but was never ready to stop. Until now. I am a 21 yr old female. These stories are wonderful keep posting it Really puts things in prospective and makes you relize your not the only person that is going through what you are. And also yes it is our choice, I choose to put a needle in my arm and am paying for those choices. But be careful please. Pills are bad enough. And notice how just about every story starts with I was in a wreck or surgery or horrible pain and doctor put me on pain meds, avoid them all together. There are ways around being on pain meds. Trigger point injections Really help my fibro myaliga and have been known to help for many other pains. Physical therepy, good exercise as well. If already on opiates, and ready to stop give suboxone a try. It's a wonderful drug if used properly.

Well, I started using opiate pain killers about 5 years ago.  At first it was just to get high on the weekends.  Then it lead to more frequent use.  About a year after I first tried Oxycontin, I was using it multiple times a week.  Within 2 years, I was using it daily and within 2 1/2 years, I was shooting Oxycontin multiple times a day.  I also moved onto using heroin or pretty much any opaite I could find that you could shoot up.

About a year and a half ago, I went into intensive in-patient rehab.  When I first started there, they put me on 1 8mg subutex (buprenorphine) a day for 3 days, then they dropped me down to 1/2 or 4mg of subutex a day for 3 days, then they gave me 4mg of subutex every other day for about a week and a half.  I have kicked several times and this was by far the easiest and least painful.

Of course, about a month out of rehab, I relapsed.  First with Oxycontin, then back to heroin.  Before I knew what happened, my habit was even worse than before.  Feeling defeated by my addiction, I started going to the methadone clinic.  It was one of the worst decision I have ever made.  I was taking 65mg of methadone a day for about 6 or 7 months.  It did exactly what I was told it would.....I was not sick and my cravings for opiates decreased drastically.  However, I felt just as trapped in my addiction as before.  You had to come in 6 days a week to get your methadone so going out of town was practically not an option.  So, after I was in the program for six months, I went out of town to visit some old friends and my ex-girlfriend.  One thing lead to another, and I ended up moving in with my ex in another city.  So, I came off 65mg of methadone cold turkey.  It was the most miserable experience of my life.  I was in constant severe pain.  I was always sick to my stomach with diarrhea and vomiting, had no energy, and wanted to sleep but couldn't.  So, I went back to using heroin within 5 days of getting off methadone, and this only made me feel better for about 6 hours or so.  Methadone is simply trading one drug for another.  Since methadone is so strong and has such a long half life, it is a million times harder to kick.  For me, and I realize everyone is different, methadone made my opiate addiction even worse.  I was doomed to either stay on methadone forever, slowly wean myself off (which probably would have been smarter), or go back to other opiates.  Again, me addiction to opiates had me defeated and I stayed using heroin and other opiates daily.

So, daily opiate use was my life again.  I would use a lot sometimes and less at other times, but normally I used opiates multiple times a day.  However, about 2 months ago I decided I needed to make a change.  My addiction to opiates had robbed me of everything I enjoyed in life.  I lost my house, my job, my girlfriend of 6 years (twice), my family, my faith, and above all my self.  I finally had enough, so I decided to wean myself off exactly how they did when I was in rehab.  I bought 10 8mg suboxone strips, and took 8mg a day for 3 days, 4mg a day for 3 days, and then 4mg every other day for about 2 weeks.  By the time I was two and a half weeks on 4mg of suboxone every other day, when I took my dose I started getting a slight buzz.  That told me it was time to quit.  Yes, 4 days after my last dose of suboxone I felt a few slight opiate withdrawal symptoms, but nothing that made me quit going about my normal, everyday life.

So, in answer to the question above, suboxone (buprenorphine / naloxone) and subutex (buprenorphine) will ease your withdrawal symptoms in about 20 minutes if taken sublingually (under the tongue).  Never inject suboxone!!!  It contains naloxone and will put into immediate withdrawal.  You can inject subutex, since it does not contain naloxone, but I would not recommend it.....if you are taking buprenorphine, you probably want to stop using.  Also, a common misunderstanding is that suboxone will make you go into withdrawal if you still have other opiates in your system.  This is not true.  Suboxone contain naloxone, a opioid inverse agonist, which will make you go into withdrawal if you have opiates in your system.  However, naloxone has an extremely low bioavailability (amount absorbed by the body) when used orally or sublingually, but has a high bioavailability when injected.  Suboxone contain naloxone to deter people from injecting the drug but will not absorb in the body if used orally or sublingually.

Hope my story and all the information I have written will help at least one person.  It helps me and my recovery to share my story with others.  If I can change one persons life, then there is one good thing that came out of my addiction.  Good luck to all!!!

It took me a good 3 weeks to actually feel some kind of normal. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do I was taking 20mg a day maybe every other day. I got through it though and I am still alive. But I relapsed and started doing heroin again. I am currently on day 5 almost and it sucks. I have not slept in4 days or ate. I finally broke down and got a couple subs. Kicking cold turkey is the worst but I feel so much better I am determined to see this through. I am done with this vicious cycle. I never win, always come out the loser with dope. I recommend using suboxone to ease some of the symptoms. Good luck everyone

I would like to say to those of you who are really interested in getting off the opiate addiction train what my experience is/was.

About 12 years ago after suffering a knee injury I started taking opiates for pain.  It was as directed but after I found out there was a "good" feeling to be had  I soon was taking more than my dose.  I did that and enjoyed the ride for several years but about 2 years ago the good times ended.  I noticed I was taking more and more to get the "good" feeling and sometimes I wasn't getting it at all no matter how many I took.

I had gotten to a space in time and place in my life where I now NEEDED opiates to feel normal.  Not to feel "good" but to simply feel normal and not be sick.  I never thought this would happen to me.  I had a opportunity to take Suboxone and  did but with some hesitation.  I didn't know what to expect and was also scared I wouldn't be able to go back on my meds.  Well, the Suboxone was part of what my Doctor called "Rotation Therapy".   It was for 30 days and was 8/2 mg. oral film.  I had NO withdrawls and felt normal.  It was wonderful not to even think about the opiates.  WOW !!!  I had prayed to God for help and I have no doubt he put this in my path.

The suboxone does very little to quell the pain, that I must admit, but when it comes to allowing you to reset your pain management clock and get back to a normal dosage that actually works, it is a God send.   I would also ad that if your goal is to use suboxone to come off opiates completely it is a great thing.  In my case the plan was to return to my regular meds after 30 days and have given my body time to detox from the "oxys".  It is a good plan and I endorse it, but I must say I was am still am tempted to not go back at all if the pain is manageable.  I am going to wait and see.

You know the little pumps in your brain that pump out the serotoinin and other feel good chemicals work 24/7 when you are taking opiates.  They work there poor little selves to the point of not doing a good job.  in addition the quality of the serotoinin and other feel good chemicals also deminishes and goes down hill.   I compare it to my diabetes and the situation I am in with my body producing poor insulin or no insulin.

I really couldn't expect for my body to run this chemical production schedule  (serotoinin and other feel good brain chemcials) at the break neck 24/7 rate 100mph and never have any down side or suffer any negative effects.  Well when you keep pushing and going more and more and more.  You will one day hit the point that they don't do what they used to do.

NOW, here is what I really want and pray for.  I remember way back in the past when I felt the "feel good" times like i got from opiates, but It came naturally.  I wonder and have asked several medical professionals will it ever be normal again.  One said No, that just like a fuel injector I had burned it out. BUT the other (i liked his answer best) said the human body had a amazing ability and potential to heal its self.  He said it would take time but with eating right excercise and not taking any pain meds my body would go back to the way it was.

That is what I want. God Willing.

So, its rotation therapy right now, but towards the end of the month I may move to not go back on the meds.

In summation I will say what ever i choose to do, Suboxone is a very key component to making it all a reality.  It is a good medicine and while it affects all differently I think its the best thing going for those who are seeking a change.

Best wishes and God Bless all of you who are trying to make a change for the better !!!

I am in the same predicament. Have been on methadone 7 years this time &Xanax for years for p.t.s.d. but find myself getting sick because I forget to take meds or thought I did earlier. I see this as a positive since the drive (mental addiction) is not as strong. Sure I have reduced my intake on my own & flush leftovers. I was on 160 mg. daily & now take 40 mg. & not nearly enough Xanax as prescribed without feeling bad but when I don't dose I eventually get sick & a few times seriously sick for days. I don't know which way to go. The clinic is a business & want you to depend on them. In the past (years ago) I went to de-tox only to wake up 8 days later in C.C.U. I am afraid of this happening again. What do I do?
