I am in the same boat as everyone on this site. I went to Yahoo answers because of the pain to see what everyone else thought about the procedure, and they were saying how it wasn't bad. i'm thinking, well something must have went bad in my op because I'm going on day 8, and I'm in pain still. Im about to be 20, I would've thought that having tumors on my ovaries removed would've been been a lot more painful, but OH NO! This is by far the worst pain ever! I wish I wouldn't have had the surgery, because I miss driving, going to work (yes I know right), being able to eat normally, and hanging out with my friends. Thank God I'm on summer break from college so I dont have to worry about school work. Cause, that would not have worked out at all. I'm on this stage where everything I put in my mouth burns! Like it feels like fire is in my mouth!! Like, OUCH. I've been such a mommy's, daddy's, and sister's baby because I feel helpless. The nurse gave me amoxicillin , some type of steroids (for swelling), and vikes for pain. Yes, it burns like crazy but it only last a couple hours with me and it puts me to sleep. Then when I wake up, my mouth is burning! There feels like there's no type of end! I called my doctor thinking that something is wrong because one side of my throat hurts a lot more than the other. They told me to drink lots and lots of cold fluids but that hurts too. All I drink is water and milk, maybe some soft foods if I can handle it. I also feel as my lymph nodes are inflamed too because I can feel them outside my throat. Though, the pain was not as bad as Day 3, (which felt like death) it is still there. I can't wait until I'm back to normal. I hope this is all worth the torture at the end. Good Luck to those who are facing the triumphs of this procedure.

God Bless!

I just got my tonsils out today and the doctor said that bad breath is normal and you should drink to keep hydrated. It will feel better and if you don't drink you will have to go to the hospital again.

I am 17. I had my tonsils removed Thursday, July 11 it's now July 20th and the first couple days were fine it was just a sore kind of pain. They prescribed me liquid Vicodin/hydrocone and it was helpful at first until the 6th day in I had to go into the hospital I wouldn't drink so I was dehydrated terribly, and the medicine I was one made me puke. They put me in a iv and took blood and gave me antibiotics because one was also infected. It's now day 9 and I can't even drink water it feels like I'm swallowing sharp knifes. The doctor days drink lots of water, I know it's painful trust me but it will help heal you faster. Any questions? Just direct message me on twitter or something, hope your pain isn't so bad! Good luck!

Oh my goodness I know EXACTLY what you're going through I'm 13 and I had my tonsils out 6 days ago also they also took out my adenoids and removed a tooth :/ the doctor/ surgeon said I had the largest tonsils and adenoids he has ever seen in his whole career. The pain is unbearable just as you said; ear aches, head aches, can't swallow anything.. Etc. but you and I have everything in common :( I wish you the best of recovery

First of all, everyone handles surgery different so don't say there are hypochondriacs. Second of all, it's normal to have the pain and nausea for that long. The hardest part for me was when the scabs come off. I ended up throwing up and throwing up after throat surgery was not so good. However, my friend had hers out and she was absolutely fine. She was eating rough food that night. By the way, I'm 20 and she's 19. Don't be afraid to call your doctor for any of your concerns. It might help being told that everything is normal. I had to call for more pain meds because I ran out after day 3 and needed them until about day 6. I am now 9 days post op and finally feeling better. I have a dry feeling in my throat but I read that it won't go away for some time. They never warned me that this whole thing would be as painful as it was. I also suggest buying a heating pad and using it on your neck. It definitely helps A LOT. Also everyone told me Popsicles Popsicle Popsicles but...I have 3 barely touched boxes of Popsicles. The thing that saved my life was warm tea. Helped loosen my throat when I couldn't even swallow my liquid painkillers. Hope this helps people currently and in the future with tonsillectomies!

I came on here looking for advice for my daughter who is 3 and a half and had her tonsils out 5 days ago. She was fine after op and seemed amazingly herself. But when we got home she changed she cannot and will not eat. Has temperature most of the time. Today she has been in tears because her ears hurt. And crys every night when she is sleeping. I have cried at reading some of your comments realizing how much pain she must actually be in. I wish I could take her pain away. I feel for every last one of you that has had this procedure done.

Hi im 17 and i had mine out 4 days ago and the pain is going away. First 2 days were screwed up but now i can even eat normal food :) my biggest problem is that i cant smoke and drink. The best thing you can do is to stay positive and not cry all the time. Even my doctor told me that.

I am 17 years old and I had my tonsils taken out about 3 weeks ago. During the first 3-5 days I was in a ridiculous amount of pain I could not eat or swallow ANYTHING and I was crying quite a bit but after 1 week of recovery I was pretty much feeling back to normal with barely any pain at all and because of this I jumped right back into my normal routine and diet (chips, pizza etc.) along with drinking hard liquor shortly after though I experienced post tonsillectomy hemorrhage and lost nearly 2 litres of blood and had to get the scar cauterized which put me back to square one for recovery and Im back on a soft diet for 2 weeks which is almost over but yet I still feel uncomfortable and it feels scabby every time I swallow I truly don't think I'll be properly recovered for another 2-3 weeks! Wish I never even got my tonsils out
