I felt so good I walked around and stood on my feet for a couple hours the second day. Big mistake. Sit your big arse on the couch. A stitch popped the 3 rd day from the standing and walking. Been miserable the next several days and had bleeding from the site every day since. Take it very easy!!!

I'm on day 7 after mine and you just described my experience exactly! My left side is now perfectly normal but My right is a bit tender and swollen. Ice and ibuprofen are a God send! Day 4 was the worst of them all but today is the best I've felt since having then procedure! Hoping to get back to normal soon!

These posts have helped me a lot, so I thought I would contribute as well.
It's Sunday and my procedure was last Tuesday. Procedure was fine and relatively painless. Stubbing a toe on the bed at night hurts more. Rested and iced through Thursday. No bruising, minor swelling. Felt really good on Friday and walked quite a lot. Saturday I was much more sore, so may have walked a bit too much. Soreness is only prevalent when standing or moving really. As others have said, the more support you can give the boys the better. In my experience Advil liquid caps worked much better than Xs Tylenol. I haven't needed the prescribed pain meds.
Hope everyone here has a smooth recovery.

Same poster as stubbed toe guy in the post directly above.
I am now 8 days out from the snip. Still some very mild discomfort when standing with nothing supportive on. The key for me was the athletic support. It made a world of difference in recovering. After wearing it all day for 3 days straight I made improvement each day, and was able to carry on mostly normal; still avoiding heavy lifting or exercise.
Docs orders for me were 7 full days off from any activities, so I can't report on that aspect yet.
Incision site seems fine. I've kept a band aid over it and alternated between applying aquafor and bacitracin triple antibiotic. Stitches are annoying, and I'm waiting for them to dissolve.

Had mines done on July the 25, 2017. Had no pain at all, went back to work on the 27. I try and limit my movement ( running, jumping). Even though I end up moving on the weekend. Was pretty good only slliiighttt minor pain I had was when I was bending down, very low ( balls touching or squeezing each other). So, two days for me no pain before or after apart from bending down. I'm just wondering how long the stitches will take to dissolve.

I see your post is over a year old. I had a no scalpel vasectomy done on 7/10/17 and it is now 8/1/17 and I still have discomfort. Have been reading online a ton about the issue of post vasectomy pain and am just wondering if yours got better and on what timeline? Thanks for any reply.

John - I'm not that guy, but I posted a little further back as 123. Trust me you are in the very early days at around 3 weeks.
For me some days definitely improved and others seemed like a set back.
One thing I did was jot down the date each day and then an honest 'discomfort' score out of 10. Then over a few weeks look back at it and see how you're doing.
Also remember that the whole area down there is in your thoughts a lot of the time. Prior to the op you'd still have had the odd discomfort or ache and just ignored it as every day life.
As the weeks pass it'll get better and you'll also stop thinking about it.
Good luck mate.

How long for the pain to go away

I wouldn't do it again. The ordeal has been several weeks long . 3 days afterwards I was very swollen black and blue. A hematoma developed and my scrotum was the size of a grapefruit. Ice and extra strength Tylenol didn't touch the pain. A doctor prescribed Tylenol 3 (codine) 5 days after. 7 days later (day 12) another doctor was very concerned about and prescribed oral antibiotics. On day 13 I was in emergency where the doctor said " holy cow that's huge !" . I was on Percocet for pain and IV antibiotics for the next six days.
Today is day 20 . The hematoma is smaller and I am needing less pain medication. I restarted the oral meds yesterday. I see the doctor again in a few days and hope to be back to work next week. ( I am a firefighter)
Best line I heard from a doctor was "these things can happen ... sucks when it happens to you " . Remember that .

Hi I had my vasectomy done on 8-21-17 at 11:00 am and was very fast and didn't hurt that much. It was a tolerant pain, but things went south 3 hours later when I was resting at home as my urologist suggested. My whole balls and scrotum were swollen and got to the size of a grapefruit not to exaggerate they were that big. Started getting chills, nauseous, light headed, and very blurred vision as if I was going to faint. I ended up going to the hospital they ran some test on my heart to see if it wasn't a heart attack wich I told them what did it have to do with my balls swelling up. I kept thinking my urologist did some thing wrong and still think he did and constantly kept talking sh*t about him. My heart was fine and process with a ultrasound on my testicles turn out that supposedly I didn't have blood flow on my right nut which was odd because my left hurted like a b***h. They got in touch with my urologist and explain what had happened and needed his assistance. The S.O.A.B finally showed up like till 9 or 10 pm with his flip flops, shorts, and this screwed up shirt and looked like he had taken his nap.At this time I was honestly scared as sh*t not going to lie I kept asking what was the problem and everybody kept telling me your urologist will explain everything, so I told him what's wrong, what happen and why but he told me all this bull shut that I had a problem in my blood. I said what the f**k are you talking about something about blood clogging up it was the stupidest thing I had herd but he insisted " you'll be surprise " so finally he said I am going to make an incision on your scrotum to remove the excessive blood and you'll be fine it will take 25 mn, lied again I was out for 2 hours. When I woke up I was half asleep and was trying to get things straight in my head my urologist had left didn't tell me sh*t and gave order to discharge me they put me on a wheel chair and told my wife bring our car so we could leave, she insisted he doesn't look ok and will feel better if he could Spend the night he just got out of a cirugy but said that's our order he can't stay. From heart failure, to a dead testicle to blood problems it went down to testicle bleeding on both and a huge hematoma on the scrotum it has been the worst thing that could happen to a man. The first week is was a living hell I couldn't walk, couldn't pee and my balls gutted like if they were been kicked every time I moved and yes on some of the post I read wear a jockstrap it really helps it helps the pain my personal experience really sucked. If you decide to do a vasectomy ask your urologist all the worst case scenarios and ask him any doubt you have thanks for reading and would really appreciate any feed back of what actually happen thanks.

Hey, there. I had mine done about 6 days ago and I am living your experience almost identically. I have not taken any pain pills (perhaps I should) but I am in constant pain. It is not a pain that will debilitate you, but a pain that makes me take a breath and try to concentrate on whatever I am working on. Similar to you, I felt a lot of pressure (that translated to pain) when the vas deferens were cut. I asked the doctor why it was so uncomfortable and she stated that it was due to pulling then and holding down the testicle after each one was cut.
Currently, I am experiencing lower abdominal pain that rarely goes away, and when it does go away, it is for a short amount of time. My question is: how long did it take for your pain to go away? What should I expect? Your input will be appreciated.

Hey guys am currently on day 9 and still experiencing pain, especially with my right testicle. Was browsing the other forum on the internet and I was starting to think my life was over and I was going to have to have an emergency reconnection.

I am 44, am at day 1 after the vasectomy. My surgery went well. ("2" inscissons) I did "NOT" use a jock strap, I wore sport boxer briefs. after about 2 hours I began feeling lower left abdominal pain (feeling of being racked or blue balled), took the prescribed Hydrocodone, relaxed in recliner watching tv for a couple of hours then went to bed. Next morning (Today) I woke up with an erection and feeling totally pain free. (Maybe TMI, but true) am totally amazed at this point, so I got up made some breakfast took a shower and then began to feel slight discomfort. Took a Tylenol and laid back down. Wrote this. Am getting back up soon to go to the grocery store. So far so good. . I think relaxing and listening to your doctor is key to a good recovery.
