Good day friends. For a while I have problems with aortic coarcation and I never get this so serious since I was always in contact with my doctor and I believed that everything is under control. And it was, until yesterday. My doctor told me that I need to run some tests and after it he told me that I need to do subclavian flap procedure. I don't know what this is, I don't even want to read it alone because whenever I am trying to find something on the internet about some issue, I always find some fact about death. I don't want that. Can you tell me how safe is Subclavian flap procedure?

Hey there.

This is actually a new technique. Well, pretty much new technique. And I can tell you that you don’t have to be afraid because it is totally safe. At least according to the doctors. But I don’t know what to tell you since this is a new procedure (pretty much new) and I don’t know how something that is new and that is still in some experimental procedure can be safe. I advise you to talk to your doctor about this as much as you can, don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions because you need to know. I don’t know, but I am a little bit skeptical about this whole thing. Good luck there.

Hey there. So Make me Coffee, what this actually means? Because this procedure is not that famous and because this procedure is not that new, do you suggest me to find some other solution as well? I don't even have a idea now why my doctor recommended me this procedure since he told me that is is pretty much safe. Now I am extremely scared because I don't want to have some procedure that is not that safe. I hope that you do understand what I mean, right? Now is there some substitute for it or no? What are my other options? Thank you.

Hello everyone. Well, I am not so sure what to answer on this question. I will be honest with you - my work colleague did this procedure a couple of weeks ago, two months to be exact with time. Doctors also told him that this procedure is in some experimental phase, but that it still safe and reliable. So, after he was thinking about it he accepted to have this procedure, Thanks God, everything was fine with him and now he is sill recovering. I believe that recovering process is going a little bit slower, but it is safe. At least it was in his case.

Hello everyone. I am glad that I can be a part of this topic and discuss with you. Lately, I did a lot of research about this procedure because my boyfriend needs to have it as well. I know that despite the popularity of subclavian flap aortoplasty for repair of aortic coarctation, reported experience and follow-up in neonates is surprisingly limited. I don’t know why this is the case because I do know a lot of people who had this procedure and everything was ok. From my point of the view, I think that this procedure is safe and I think that they should do something about it to make it much better. Maybe this is the procedure of the future, who knows.
