Hello!
I had shot of depro provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habbits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

after i had my daughter when i was 19 i started the depo shot. w/in that year i gained 40lbs! i became highly depressed, got bad skin which i had never had in my life, anxiety attacks, loss of sex drive and my hair was thinning. it never occured to me it could be the shot doing all that. so i stayed on it for about 2yrs and got off to get pregnant again. w/in 3 mos my period came back and i was pregnant! during those 3 mos i had lost 30lbs,it was awesome! then after i had my son i got back on the shot and the weight came back along w/ the symptoms. i continued to stay on the shot for 6yrs,never able to shed the weight gain except for when i got an ulcer and threw up everyday. after i became healthy again i met a new man which i married. after a while we decided to have a baby so i got off the shot again but this time it took like 8mos for my period to come back and get pregnant. during this time none of the weight came off,but all of the other sypmtoms quit. and now...im back on the shot AGAIN and have been so for the past year. i get on the shot in the first place so i can breastfeed my children which u cant do while on the pill.now that my second son is done breastfeeding im deff getting off the shot! hopefully ill be able to shed the lbs like i did the first time. but i also have to rem im older (30) and ive now had 3 surgeries on my abdomen (c sections). any advise? wish me good luck?

I got my first depo shot November of 2007, i have regularly continued it and am due for another in August but am definitely not getting it. In just 8 monthes i have gained about 50 pounds! I dont feel good like i used to. I feel more tired, and i hate to say it- lazy. I am desperate to lose the weight and get back to the way i was before my pregnancies. I am so miserable and feel way less attractive than i used to. If anyone has any info on how long it takes for the weight to come off or any suggestions on how to lose it, that would be very much appreciated.

I have been on depo since six weeks after the birth of my daughter in 2003. I'm 5'8 and weighed right at 130 lbs. Now, almost five years later, I weigh 178. Being as tall as I am, I didnt think the extra weight would be that bad, but i feel heavy now. I opted to not get my last shot, which was due last week, and decided to get on the pills. i hope that i will be able to lose the weight-only about 15 lbs- and still feel sexy. i mean, i have thighs and butt now :-D, but i also have a stomach, too. if i can just lose that, i'll be happy. i'll have to come back in a month or so and give another testimonial.
I was on this product for 1 year. When I went off of it, I had a period every day for 10 months! My doctor tried everything to get it to stop and eventually put me on a medication that helped stop my period nightmare. I would never have taken this shot if they hadn't said no side effects. I agree with the others here, if you are on it - GET OFF NOW before you regret it. There are other alternatives that won't mess you up so badly.
Contraceptives do different things to different people, but it's important for others to know what to possibly expect. I think choosing the right method is really trial and error to find the right one for you.
I had my first shot 3 months ago. Within the first week, I experienced nausea, fatigue, depression, and headaches. A few weeks later I had very painful cramps and back pain. I didn't have a period the first month, but the second month my very painful heavy period lasted 2 weeks, and this month I have irregular spotting. I haven't had any nausea since the first month, but I'm still tired all the time, depressed and headaches almost everyday. I haven't had any weight gain at first, and only 5lbs gain in the 3rd month. There hasn't been any decline in my sex drive so far. I have trouble remembering to take birth control pills, so remembering to take 1200mg of calcium daily to make up for the bone loss Depro-Provera causes isn't convenient either, I might as well be trying to remember taking the pill. I'm choosing another method, I won't be getting the shot again. I might try the NuvaRing or Patch next.
I recieved my first and old shot of Depo in May b/c I have had terrible pains for the past 5 years from my period. I have told my doctor about them for 5 years and the only thing he recommended was birth control. I took the pill for about 10 months, but noticed that I was sad, and for no reason! I am normally a happy, bubbly person, so I stopped talking it that day. Well, this shot has been the worse thing I could have ever done. I got so depressed in the 1st month that I was eating once a day. That's not me, either. I lost 8 pounds due to that, but everything else I do is worthless. I eat healthy and am always on a diet. I was going to the gym for 5-6 days a week and running 6 miles, while eating low calories, and didn't lose anything else. I find it very hard to maintain my weight. I have been eating less to maintain it and even that doesn't work most days. I also started bleeding a full period with cramps and everything 5 weeks after getting the shot. That lasted for 2 months!!! That is the only effect on my sex drive, but for 2 months and I felt disgusting!! I have had the worse migranes while on this shot. I frequently pass out from the migrane pains and they have been an everyday thing.
I got this shot to stop the pain, but all I got was MORE! It is not worth all this to stop a week of intense pain. My doc prescribed me birth control pills to take during my 2 month period, which didn't help, but made me moody and HUNGRY!! I had to take them, on top of the shot, every 4 hours!! I went through a month's worth in less than 2 weeks. I have always had pretty clear skin and only would get one bump, not even zit, at a time and have been breaking out like crazy.
During my 2 month period, I also found some "tissue or lining," as my doctor calls it, from my uteris! I found it when I had immense pain and cramps! I don't know about everyone else, but I'm never had that problem. Blood slots, yeah, but lining? Tissue? NO!!!
This is one shot. I can't even imagine what people who are on it longer go through b/c there just isn't enough words or space to try to explain it.
IT'S NOT WORTH IT! IT ONLY CAUSES MORE PAIN AND GRIEF!
Hi, I had 3 doses of the depo shot and I have gained 25lbs. I have practically been starving myself and running a mile a day, only to get on the scale and see no weight loss. Also, when excersing I experience pain in my knees and hips, which can possibly be lack of bone density. I am going to have a bone density test to get it checked out. If anyone knows of a way to get this weight off, please let me know.

I was on the depo for 2 years and gained 65lbs. But I have been off it now for 3 years and have not lost ONE lb. I am going crazy, I've started diets and even going to the gym 2 hrs a day.. Nothing is working... I get so mad so then I stop the diet.. any suggestions?
I'm 25 and I've had two depo shots now... I've never been model-skinny, but not fat either - just curvy. Within 5 months I've picked up almost 10kg! From my teens until when I got the first shot, I always weighed 64kg, that never went up or down... now I suddenly weigh 74kg! I've even started exercising. But to my dismay - I only pick up more weight! My next shot is due in a month, I'm not gonna have it. After reading peoples posts about this drug, I can't believe all the things the nurses failed to mention. I'm just hoping the weight comes off again, and that I won't have such bad symptoms coming off as I haven't been on it that long. I'd rather have painful periods than all this nonsense.
I've been taking the shot for 6 month and i gained thirty lbs. I'm only 17 and it's really really difficult. I used to be 168 which was not skinny but now i am 196. I feel horrible and ugly. I can't wait to start losing the lbs quick. I hope if happens soon.
I got my first depo shot in March of 08........I was weighing between 132-135..............I took my last shot in June of 08. I have been off the shot since my last scheduled shot in 9/08. I CANNOT LOSE A POUND. Just like all of the other posters. I am 30 and I now weigh 145-150 I am an avid gym goer. I am in the gym 5 days a week, for atleast an hour at a time, I have even tried fat burners such as lipo 6, hydroxycut max and nothing is seeming to help me lose a pound. I am going mad..........any advice?
I've been on depo since I was 16 because I had a mild case or endometriosis. I was 135 when I started and 3 years later I am now 188. I have been working out like crazy for the last 3 months and I haven't lost a pound. Im still on Depo and Have been debating if I want to get off the shot, but I love the benefit of not having the period, and not having as suvere a pain from the endometriosis. Its a hard decision. My doctor had me start taking calcium pills when I started the shot. I really don't want to do, but I would really like to lose some of this weight. I don't like it. I'm still stuck weighing the pros and cons. :'(
Hi, i have been on the depo for a year now, i used to weigh 100-105 pounds, i now weigh 140 from this stupid shot!! I am due to take it in a couple days again, but after reading all of this, I am DEFINITELY not getting again, I hate the weight I have gained so much, and I hope it comes off fast. I don't feel attractive anymore, and my husband rarely wants to even do anything sexual with me anymore because of the weight i've gained. It's been really hard on me, and i just want to lose this weight. I also am wanting to try and have a baby, i've heard it could take up to three years after going off the shot, is that true? I really hope not!
I had my first depo shot in january 2006, I was 18 at the time and only weighed 90lbs. I was always a very skinny person, no matter how much i ate i would never gain a single pound. The first thing i noticed when i got on the shot was a bloated stomach. THis is what bothers me the most. I didn't mind the weight gain at first because i was underweight. I had my last shot in november of 2008 and was scheduled to come in for my next appointment feb 19, 2009. I decided to get off the shot now because I currently weigh 116lbs and the bloated stomach has not gone down. I was always reluctant to get off it because i didn't mind not having my periods. I changed my eating habits, started to exercise, but i still was gaining weight. hopefully, now I can lose the weight i gained from the depo. I will never use it again.
