Hello! I had shot of depro provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habbits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

hi i have been having the same problems i only had 1 injection i have decided to stop as my hair is falling out like crazy just how you decribed plus im always on my period (spotting) its annoying
I was on the Depo shot for 8 months and I had to stop because it made me lose so much weight, and my hair was falling out...like in clumps in the shower it freaked me out! i weigh usually 110-115lbs but after being on the shot my weight dropped down to 90lbs! i didn't do anything different i still ate the same and wasn't any more active than i usally am. I have now been off the shot for a little over three months and i haven't gotten a period yet! im getting kinda worried, does anyone have a similar situation?and when did you get your periods back?
hi, i have also been on one shot of the injection and never ever again will i do it again. i gained almost 15 pounds in just 3 months!! and what makes it even more hard to believe is that i go for spinning classes 4 times a week and have very healty eating habits!!! :-( So now, i decided to insert a loop again, so i dont hve to worry for the next 3 years. I started going to the gym where i do cardio and strengh training, and i still spin 3 times a week!! the weight has started to drop but i still hve the mood swings and i feel bloated!!

I got my Depo shott when I was fifteen. Ive been on it for a year. Im not sure how much weight ive gained but I just know that I cant lose any. its driving me nuts!
Hello all. I was on the depo for three cycles (9 months) and I didn't gain or lose any weight. Also, my doctor warned me of the side effects and put me on a calcium supplement twice a day for as long as I was on the shot. The irregular spotting is what did it for me...I like the idea of not having a period, but if I have to still wear a sanitary napkin ALWAYS it defeats the purpose. In the morning would be a spot, so I would use a panty liner, but by lunch time I might need an actua sanitary napkin. Too much and too costly buying pads to wear everyday!
i was on the depo for 4 years. i BALLOONED. went from a size 8/9 to a size 22. im 5 2. can u imagine how devistating this is? i dont even know how i could have gained that much weight. i have since been off of it for 4 years and no weight has gone away. even during the time i was on it i had a drug problem and never ate and rode a bike all around town and to work every single day, and even during a week when i didnt eat or sleep id put on lbs. it is so discouraging. i have been seriously into getting healthy and eating correctly and whatnot and i exercise on avarage between 3 and 5 nites a week. i just cant live with myself anymore. especially when nothinbg i do helps anything. i dont go shopping for clothes, i dont wear jeans cuz none of them fit me right. i mean who makes a 22 with a 29 in inseam???? its pathetic..........id give ANYTHING to have never had those shots. i do not reccomend them to anyone.
Hey everyone I am 22 now I had my daughter at 17 and when I went back to school after my 6 week check up I fit into all the same clothes I did before the pregnancy.I began the depo at my 6 week check up. That year I graduated high school and couldn't find anything that would fit me right that was about 5 months after being on the depo I was on it for 2 yrs and also quit Ive been off it about 2 yrs now and it's so hard for me to lose weight I hate looking at my body now and I hate shopping. I don't like to go out with my friends because I don't look as good as them anymore and I'm just imbarrased with myself. I exercise and nothing really work which just makes me so depressed =[. The thing about it is that I told the doctor I was gaining weight and she said it wasn't due to the depo it was on my own behalf because I was eating to much lol. And my mom was like she doesn't even eat that much and I lived in jersey city then and I walked everywhere I wish I never went on it and I would never be this big dinosaur that I am now
I know this thread was made ages ago but for those, like me, who are still looking out there about Depo Provera and weight gain stories, here's mine. I started taking Depo in January 2010 right after I turned 21. I had already taken the pill since I was 19 and was on the patch a couple months before I started taking Depo. The reason why I switched to the shot was because I joied the Army in Jan 2010, and I didn't want to mess periods or deal with a military doctor in basic training(botcamp) in case they wouldn't allow me to take Depo(which I've headsome doctors do not like putting new soldiers on the shot, for whatever reason...). I was lucky, however, because my doctor allowed me to get my refill while at basic training. Anyway, while I was doing rigorous training and getting yelled at by drill sergeants, instead of having a dwindling period...I had periods that seemed to never stop for a full two months, the whole length of my training. However, I know that my periods were normally heavy so I know this won't happen to everyone. My weight going in to the Army was 117 lbs, and I was always good on weight because my immune system rocked. The fact that I was a gymnast when I was 8-13 yrs old might have helped, too. After my basic training, when I landed in California for my advanced training, I weighed 117 lbs still. Now it's March 2011 and I weigh roughly 136 lbs. I started noticing my weight gain around October last year when cellulite developed on my sides for some reason I didn't know. I was doing physical training every morning, minus the weekend, but I was still being active. There was a time I was on profile for no upper body, but that didn't cause me to avoid sit-ups or running. It could have been due to the Chinese food I would eat once a week and drinking coffee every morning and drinking pop. However, ever since November last year I stopped drinking soda and more juice and weight loss water/juice. I still drank coffee in the morning because of my long and stressful training, but now I don't touch it. I've been rinking only water, cranberry juice/orange juice, and weight loss drinks. I eat a lot healthier now such as healthy choice meals and more tuna. I have a lack of Vitamin D so I've been eating better for that as well. I've also had joint pains, which might be a good reason to stop taking Depo Provera as well as the fact that I have not lost any weight or any fat yet. I've done everything I can think of. I'm even taking weight loss pills every day and eating fiber gummies. The only thing I can think of is to stop taking the shot and see where it goes from there. If what most people are saying about losing weight on your first period, that would be the best news for me. When I take my next physical training test and get weighed, I know I'll fail because I'm overweight. By the way, I'm 22 yrs old and 5 feet tall. Nothing I do is working, and I still have cellulite that has hardly started to go away after using cellulite cream for the past year. Hope this enlightens some of you. Yor body is most likely different than mine, but weight gain seems to be one major theme of Depo Provera.
hiya... i was on depo provera for jus over 2years nd then stopped as it put loads of weight on me.. i was wearing a uk size 8 nd went up to wearing uk size 10 am am 11 nd a half stone nd am only 19years old, i was jus wondering if anyone knws if there is any fast way to loose the weight? thanks
I went on Depo when I was 17, I had just started going out with my first boyfriend. My GP & I decided it would be the best option for me as I wouldn't have to remember to take the pill everyday. I thought everything was going great, no periods, no pregnancy - job done! Then I started gaining weight, I was on Depo for two years, I thought the weight was just from eating too much. When we broke up I decided to come off it straight away. Fifteen months later I still have no period (I have one every maybe 5 months at very stressful times). I fear I am infertile and cannot shift the weight. I also fear I have osteoporosis as I have terrible pains in my hips. If this message does nothing else I want it to warn young girls who like me was more terrified of pregnancy than caring about my health. It is not worth it. It may sound fantastic not to have a period, but quiet frankly it's terrifying and unnatural. Never mind the obesity factor. I wish my GP had more knowledge and sense and protected me better from this awful drug.
I was on depo for 3 months.  went from 10st to 12 ive gained it on my hips and my boobs and belly themost !! its awful im a whole 2 sizes bigger im trying so hard to get it off but it wont shift. it knocks ur confidence so much. i used to be really slender :(
I was on Depo for 3 years...I decided to get off when I read a study that said depo has a average weight gain of 11 lbs per year. I  am now on the patch and I love it...On Depo I startd when I was 125lbs...when I got off I was 175...I began using the patch 3 months ago and I have already dropped 10 lbs!!! I am not a active person and my eatting habits have not changed.
Hi guys,I've been reading this forum for quite a while and thought it was time I chime in. I started the depo shot around 8 months ago. I was around 115lbs and rarely fluctuated in weight. I was always very active when I was in my teens, thus I rarely had to really watch what I ate intensely. Throughout university, I lived a university lifestyle, workout out casually, but never gained weight despite being less active than previous years. At age 22, after taking one round of depo, I gained three pounds. After the second, I gained another 8 pounds. At my heaviest, I was 127 pounds. I became very depressed and insecure - which is something I never felt before. I started binge eating, lost my sex drive and felt terrible about myself overall. I lost all my energy and zest for life. I made the decision to come off depo after only two shots because of the absolute personality change I experienced. That was two months ago. Since, I have started back on the birth control pill, which I had been previously taking for 10 years. I changed my diet completely - I now watch what I eat very VERY closely. I started working out five to six days a week for 30 minutes. At least twice at the gym, but if I cant make it, I work out at home. In two months, I have lost five pounds and I am starting to feel myself again. I indulge in healthy foods I enjoy, and let myself cheat every once and a while, to keep me sane. I'd like to be 117lbs, and my goal is to be that weight by the end of July. I'm telling you guys, you will lose the weight if you allow yourself to accept a complete lifestyle change. You have to be committed. But my ultimate advice is to get off depo as soon as possible. If you are thinking about getting depo - don't. I wish I never had.
