how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

I have been on depo for 6 months and I gained 20 pounds. I was supposed to get a shot today but for some reason, (20 of them) I did not go. I have very heavy periods and I was placed on depo to help that. I have 100 pounds to lose in order to be at a normal weight. Since I started reading your posts, I have don't feel so bad but I am still frustrated at the fact that the weight came on so fast. The doctors who prescribe depo should also prescribe a weight lost pill as well. From now on I think I'm going to stay away from birth control pills. My period is heavy because I am overweight. She says that the adipose tissue (fat) is like a breeding ground so to speak for estrogen. She said high estrogen levels will contribute to more or heavier periods.  By using depo I am increasing fat and therefore estrogen. So, depo is allowing my periods to go away but making me gain adipose tissue. How is depo going to help me in the long run? It's not and that is why I decided to come off of it. I am saddened by what depo has done to my body.

I have been on and off the depo for years I knew second time around that there is weight gain, I gain 10 to 15 pounds each time I get a shot, I have stopped getting the shot in Jan and now just spotting.  Depressing me since before I started the weight I lost 70 pounds when I started I gained it back fast plus more I weigh more now then ever, not having your period isn't worth the weight gain, my doctor told me it's not the depo its what i'm eating, nope haven't changed much of my diet it's the depo, depo also does stuff to your hormones I not going through menapause but I know have to be on estrogen since it some how lowers it, it thins your bones as well, so if your thinking of taking the depo I would advise you to try another form of birth control because depo is not good, very few do i hear weight isn't a problem.  Hard when your short and over weight now really over weight.  

I was on depo for a year I lost a lot of weight while on it I weighed 172 and dropped to 129 now I'm starting to gain weight after I stoped it...help please

this tarted on the depo shot 3 months ago and I am confused, I have been looking up everything on weight changes because I lost 15 lbs. I was 145 now I'm 130. I haven't changed anything in my life. I work out and eat very well, other than my one cup of coffee in the morning I drink water all day. I tried to lose weight for a while, I was trying to lose 10 lbs but birth control was important to me. I got side effects from everything else. little depressed when they told me I would probably gain weight but that's the price I felt was worth paying. I am seriously shocked by the weight loss and I haven't had any negative side effects. has anyone else lost weight??

update, I've only taken 2 doses of the depo shot  and  I gained 35 pounds. I've been without an injection for 2 months now and I lose a few pounds at a time but when ever I eat anything that taste good I gain it all back despite exercise and portion control methods. this was the worst decision I've ever made. my period still has not returned and I'm starving constantly. I do a good job at ignoring my new constant hunger but I cant shed the pounds. I'm too young for this crap. I want my bikini body back. I'm suffering from a pregnancy body when I've never been pregnant.

Hi I've been on the shot for about nine to ten months, (3 shots) I did it right after I got Ingaged for I wouldn't have any worries. My doc told me that it was safe with no real side effects. The first month on what's great, the time when my time of month was to come it was my heavest I ever had and lasted for two in a half weeks. The pain was so bad I couldn't go to work cause I couldn't walk or stand. The next time I got the shot I was ten pounds heavier! Doc told me that it was normal and the next time it would be better. SO NOT TRUE! By the time of my wedding I was 40 pound bigger. To all girls that are on this stuff, get off as soon as you can!!! I've been off for three months and working out hard and eating right and I can't lose any weight. But I wish I would have know that it would hurt me this bad.

Yes I have had major hair loss while being on depo! I noticed it when I was on the shot for about 10 months and I talked to my Dr. about it but she didn't seem to care and she told me it wasn't a big deal but at the age of 22, it was a big deal to me! Whenever I sit down, I look down at the table under my hair and all you can see is tons of hair that fell out. I've had the same scenario with your shower experience. Also, my hair is just not the same, it is soo thin! My mom had noticed at around 9 months and mentioned how my hair was thinning out. I talked to my hair dresser about it, and the only suggestion she had was to take biotin. I just bought some so we will see if that works, I just went off of depo (after being on it for 18) due to the hair loss, major weight gain within a year, and a non-existent libido. If you find any suggestions let me know!

I'm 20 with a child, I was 180 before my son and after I had him I was 200lbs...after my 1st shot, I gain 28lbs in 3 1/2 months. DONT DO IT!!! I was trying to avoid taking a pill every day just to gain weight from what was suppose to be a convience and bleed everyday that I've been on it. I back on the 12 week pill and trying to loose weight. Give yourself time and don't beat yourself up if you're trying to loose the weight. Most of us go on the DEPO because our lives are so hectic and we forget the pill or jsut honestly don't have the time to stop and just tak it. Fit it into your morning routine, eat 3 times a day and get your B6, B9 and B12 and you'll be fine. Whomever reads this, keep your head up!!! Losing weight is not easy, especially when your fighting hormones. I went from a solid 10/12 to a 16 and I felt horrible, tired, beat up and depressed. Now that I'm off, eating right and taking multivitamins, I feel great. BE ENCOURAGED!!!

I have been on depo a year and 3months. I stopped taking it during March which was supposed to be my next appointment, but i stopped taking it cause i had gained alot of weight i was 116 when i started now im 142. I havent had my period on in 2 months. it's kinda hard for me to lose weight. i gained weight by eating alot of sweets. so what i started to do was take a garbage bad a wrap it around my waist and take a 33 minute walk. it makes you sweat alot and burns calories. 

Who are you to judge anyone? Maybe you had a good experience. You are one of the few. I have been on that shot for going on 4 years and I experienced weight gain, hair loss and severe cramping and heavy periods. It was the worst decision I ever made and incidentally, I do have a life, I am not a little girl, and I do know what I am talking about. Maybe you should get a life and stop judging what you have not experienced!!!!!!!!

I'm 17 years old, I got on the shot January 2012, and my last shot was March 2013, I got the shot not because I was having sex but because I over blood on my period " to the point of where it threatened my life, and there very pain full" I have a lot of Heath problem for such a young ago. My OBGYN had me get on the shot without tell me the side effect. before before being on the shot I on weighed 120 pounds, and because of the shot I have gain over 130 pounds in a year and a half, I now weigh 250 pound. And I didn't gain it on my own, it would be in impossible for me to have gain this weight because I have colitis (I don't know if I have spelled that right?) It is not far for this to happen to me, that a drug that was supost to help me would cause more problems ( the colitis was NOT CAUSED BY THE DEPO)  I would rather ricks my life then take this drug! and now that I am off the shot I really really hope that I will lose this weight IMMEDIATELY!!! And PLEASE if anyone can give me some advise on this I would be most great full 

Dear Ladies, i know exactly how you feel. I went on the injection last year due to fibriods. I was on double dose as well. I didn't gain weight, in fact i lost the weight, in Dec12 i decided to off, and in March13 i have no idea what happened, I went from a a size 8 to a size 14. I've execrcise i went on a diet and now im just depressed. I have officially just given up.

hi there, i was on depo only one time (one shot) and gained 30lbs in one single month that was in january 2013 since then my period came back in 3 months i started straight away to go to the gym), never changed my diet im having between 800-1500calories/day since i was a teenager (im 29 now) but i didnt lost any weight ever since and im also a desperate to get this fat off cus none of my clothes fit me properly ... my advantage is that im tall and its not that obvious but i dont feel like few months ago. hope everything goes off soon :/

ive been off depo provera for a year now and its a constant struggle. before i got my shot i was 120 lbs, when i got the first one i gained 10 lbs, then another 10 after the second then another 10 on the third, then when oi stopped it like others instructed i expected to lose weight but instead i gained 30 more pounds. i am now at 160 lbs. i dunno what to do too.

I was on depo for three years since I was in high school I was very very active in school did sports constantly major track star volleyball player  soft ball ROTC pt ever Friday and cheerleader each year I gained about 25 pound I know this due to my annual physical. I always wonder why I was gaining weight and finally confronted my doctor. They told me the side affect of my depo. They refereed me to a nutritionist but since I was very active I already diet. I weighed 120 before I started and now I weight 200 pounds. My twin weights the same amount that she did when i first got on depo. I have been off depo for 1 year and a half and still havent lost any weight. It was very devastating. Your best bet is to take diet pill called   duromine pills. It will rebost your metabolism. It is kinda expensive but it is the best result to having your old body they way you want. Good luck ladies and hope you get back to your rode to recovery.
