Hello!
I had shot of depro provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habbits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

I've just googled and found this blog as been on depo provera for 2 years as had an ongoing period. y periods have stopped but I have gone from a size 6 to a size 16 and I haven't changed eating habbits. I am starving all the time all I think about is when I'm getting my next meal and I'm sick to death of salad. This is maing me really unhappy and I feel ugly all the time. After reading all your comments I had no idea about oesteoperosis, this is shocking. I think this has pushed me to go to my GP and stop taking this. I think the period problem was actually better than this.

WOW I agree that's an awfully rude response for a nurse very childish. When I first started taking the depo it was great I had ongoing period problems for 4 years and had an 11 month long heavy period and the depo literally cured this. I felt normal for the first time in years. However now I feel unhealthy and sluggish and unattractive and being overweight is not good for you. I've made a decision to come off the depo now because I feel I have no control over my weight and would like to be slim and healthy and it doesn't seem to be working while I'm on the depo but when I was on the pill I was healthy size 10/12 and found it easy to lose weight if I wanted to fit into an 8/10 for a special occasion. I'm now a size 16 but have a terrible diet of a banana for breakfast and a salad for tea with either brown rice or wholemeal pasta and fruit to combat my sweet cravings. I am starving all the time and crave just a piece of cheese or a pastry and I'm so unhappy but I can't moan all the time as it won't go away by itself I have to keep trying. Every week I do aerobics, walking and yoga. I like going swimming when I can but I only drop a couple of pounds. Worst of all - you may not believe but my breasts are enormous they don't stop growing its horrible they irritate me something rotten. I miss my b cups! S what I'm saying is depo will work for some people but not for me I'm one fatty with a long way to go before I can jump and my boobs don't clap.
i have experienced hair loss first time i was on depo provera and came off it! i had my third child and decided to try it again but never again!! i had no period for a year yeah sounds good but the weight gain i gained almost 3 stone just with 3 shots!! i went from size 6-8. i felt constantly tired, moodswings hotsweats, sleepless nights weird dreams and extreme bloating not to mention peeing frequently! i decided in march not to go back as i want to try concieve. it took since then til july to get a first proper period and im having trouble getin rid of the jelly belly i gained on depo! god knows when i will concieve as docs told me can take a year since last jab! on the hair loss front it was minimal compared to first time round it does get better though.
i ment to write i went to a size 6 to a ten pushing on to a twelve!!
I am 33 and have been on depo since I was 17, yes 17. I asked all of my doctors throughout this time if it was ok, and time and time again I was told it was ok. I have been off the shot for 8 months now. I trialled bc pills for a bit because I was training for my 2nd marathon and didn't want to get pregnant. I am happily married and we are trying to get pregnant... I now resize after being off both now for 4 months that the depo was the reason I could never lose those damn extra pounds. I am seeing my body for the 1st time now! I'm down 15 lbs and I can tell that depo just have me a constant state of water retention. I'm not as hungry (progesterone makes you think you're pregnant) and my sex drive is through the roof (birth control can make the body think it's prego-so no need to procreate right?). So not only am I glad that I'm off the shot but I'm Definately want to schedule a bone density test, since it's depo that affects mineralization etc.
I quit depo June this year. I actually started to drop weight 2 weeks ago. I am down 6lbs. My eating habits have drastically changed, when I was on depo I was always hungry but now it's easier to eat healthier because I dont feel like im starving. Good luck and it's possibl to lose the weight, the depo just has to leave your body completely.
I took depo for about 9 months. I didn't get my period Anymore which was great, but I did gain weight. I went from being 130 to now 177. I do work out about 3/4 times a week. I drink meal replacement shakes for breakfast and lunch and I eat a healthy dinner. So far I haven't lost a single pound. I've been off the depo for almost a month. I'm hoping the weight comes off soon. I Have a pear shaped body and of course all my weight went into my hips and butt. I'm just hoping that once my body gets back on its normal cycle and the depo gets out of my system I can start losing the weight. In my opinion, don't use the depo! Try something else besides this. My sister uses the Mirena iud and hasn't gained any weight. I wish I would've gone with that birth control.
Omg!! I have been having the same problem. I have been using biolage for 5 years and this has never happened. It is definitely because of the shot. I have been on it for 6 months now and gained over 20 pounds. I have always been a size 0 and never had to work out. I am now a size 2-4 with a belly. I feel horrible and I'm always tired.
I bet bcuz of it i end up getting anxiety and its the worst feeling Ever
Yes i have hair loss to
I've been off the depo for 2 and a half years haven't lost the weight :(
I was on depo for 9 months and spent the following 7 years trying to lose the extra 90 pounds I put on. I did diet and exercise religiously and nothing worked. I found an article about the shot causing insulin resistance. The only diet that would help would be Atkins, or something low carb. I gave it a try and in 4 months lost 57 pounds. I went off the diet for a while (4 years) and just started low carb eating again. P90x built muscle for me, but the fat went nowhere it was awful. Here's to hoping I get my pre depo body back!
I am currently transitioning to a low-hormone birth control pill. I have been on the depo shot for three years (started when I was 17) and I have gained an excessive amount of weight. I gained slowly at first (not enough to notice right away) then after 2 years, I gained so much weight so fast! I did not weigh myself before getting on the depo shot but I would wear size 3 or 4 pants and small shirts but now I wear larges, x-larges, and 7/8 (sometimes 9) in pants. I went to the doctor to get off the depo and weight 182 lbs...which is the most I have ever weighed in my life. I feel so uncomfortable in my skin and hate my body now. I was not told when going on the depo that it a) caused osteoporosis b) was an anabolic steroid and c) negatively impacted labido. The steroid factor alone will cause weight gain but also make it extremly hard to lose weight. I would not recommend the depo shot for anyone and I am just glad I am transitioning off of it now. I hope to lose weight once I start my period or at least have the capability to now that I am not taking a steroid. I agree with everyone else that says do not get on it or if you already are, get off of it right now!
