I'm getting my running legs back post-baby and just cannot get up past 3 miles again. I think I've done 3.5 once or twice. But I just feel stuck at 3 miles. Any advice thoughts on getting back into more mileage??? Other than just do it and stick with it while it hurts I guess??? Just looking for some tips or heck maybe it's just a motivational problem and I don't want it enough. But I really want to get back to where I'm running 4 miles at the low end and can be back towards 6 or more for a longer run.

Thanks!!!!
Can you run 3 and then walk/run the last one just to get over the hurdle? I'm guessing that it's mental and that once you've covered the distance a few times, that it will go back to being just an easy distance.

How about logging some trail mileage? Is there anything nearby to run on? 3-miles of hills, turns and bumps for enough days in a row will make getting past 3 on the road a breeze.

My advice would be to do it in very small chunks - a couple of hundred yards at a time. I.E. if your run ends at your driveway then run past the driveway just one block, turn around and run back. Next time do two blocks on your long run. Build it up very gradually.

That was exactly my thought. Don't try to add on a whole mile, if you think about it, thats 33% more of your run! Just add on a little on one or 2 runs a week and it will come. And I like the suggestion of walking part of the last part too, that will definitely help mentally and probably physically as well. Good luck!
if its any consolation, having seen your mileage I think you're doing great! :D

Thanks for the input. I think I'll definitely try the run/walk thing a bit this week and see how much I can add on. Hopefully that will help!

You can always try the standard off slowing your pace just a little so that you will have a little more energy left at the end of 3 miles.
