Just wondering how you made out with the weight loss? I was on Celexa for 5 yrs and gained 50lbs. Been off of it totally for 1 month and hoping for the best.
Within the past two weeks I have finally completed the several month long process of weaning myself off Lexapro. I was on a 10mg dose for four years. During that time I've gained 25 pounds. The past year I have been going to the gym 5 days and week and my weight only fluctuates slightly. I am beyond frustrated. Please tell me this weight will start falling off now that the meds are out of my system.
Can anyone share how weight loss went for them after stopping their meds? I am almost off of my cipralex and I am hoping to lose the 15lbs I have gained since starting only 6 months ago
I had the exact same thing. It's something to do with the serotonin and your body not being able to signal that it is full. I was always tiny and now have gained over 10 lbs. my dr added Wellbutrin and it completely stopped that over eating problem
There are many natural remedies for anxiety and depression. you don´t have to resort to medication. I was on meds for 20 years and gained 60 pounds. May I recommend a book? The Mood Cure by Julia Ross.
Drugs like that completely drain and deplete your magnesium in your body. This is the most important mineral needed by the body. I would suggest getting your magnesium stores back up and see if that helps with weight loss.
I know there are many supplements on the market & it can be so confusing as to which one to buy as many know magnesium supplements can cause diarrhetic effect.
There are some extremely good ones that are 99% absorbed & won't do that to you.
Good luck i hope this helps!
Over my years of suffering horrid anxiety and depression I've learnt that it's all thyroid related that the meds are just a bandaid fix if you can find a intergrative gp to help
You then u will

What did you do to lose the weight? How long after you stopped Lexapro did you see the pounds start to go down?
I completely agree about the weight gain in lexapro. I have been on it for a year all up. I am a health freak and exercise and eat so healthy but have gained 5 kilos from it. It is so destressing. Thank god my Dr and i have gradually been lowering my dose so i can come off it the end if this week. Hopefully the kilos start coming off and i can feel like me again
This is literally me too! Taking Prozac initially for PMDD as well, gained at least 20lbs, and right now tapering off in the EXACT same way.
Hoping to be confident in my skin again soon! Good luck to you!✌

Same here. I've been on lexapro for less than a year and gained 60 lbs. It has helped tremendously with managing my anxiety and depression but the scale keeps moving up! I went from 148 lbs to 202! I can't wait for next month to try something new.
I have gained 70lbs in less that 6 yrs. mine was due to Prozac. I quit taking it in October, so that is 7 months that I have not taken it. I have lost 3lbs. I eat salads and go to the doctors diet program to get the phentermine pills. I am obsessed with the idea of this weight coming off.
I was on llexapro for almost two years and I gained 40 lbs. I stopped taking it about two weeks ago and I've lost six lbs already. I don't feel as hungry as I did while on it either. My doctor told me that Lexapro doesn't cause weight gain. The last time I took Lexapro I was pregnant and breastfeeding there after...I never lost the baby weight until I stopped taking it and was pregnant again and I only gained like 12 lbs during that entire pregnancy. It's the Lexapro that causes weight gain!!
Have you been able to take the weight off?
Hi,
Can you help me?
I am new to this. I have taken Lexapro for 2 years. I tried to come off it last year but only lasted a few weeks.
I have had anorexia in the past and I feel the lexapro is causing me to gain weight, which is worsening my anxiety. At first I lost weight when taking them, then i feel it has slowly crept up. I am at an ED clinic so I know I am not eating too much- apparently I still don't eat enough and I exercise quite a lot. I can run 5ks in under 24 minutes.
I started to taper down my dose a week and a half ago and in another 2 weeks I will be off the lexapro completely. My question is, if I make it this time, will the weight gain reverse once I am off the tablets? Can anyone offer any personal experience?
