I was tested 89 (range 17-73) for PTH just now with a serum calcium of 9.8 (range 8.5-10.5).  However another lab recently tested serum calcium at 10.1 and during the past year it tested pretty steady last spring around 9.2, then in oct 2011 went to 10 and now 10.1 in early jan.  My phorphorous tested 4.5 (range 2.4--4.7).   Can anyone give me an indication?  I tested for this because my alkaline phosphatate levels have been over range during the past year and only this month shot up to 278 (I think the high is 125 ).  Since liver was ruled out, and I am testing bone scan late february, I felt it could be due to parahyperthryoidism.   I would appreciate any input.  Can anyone recommend a great specialist in the NY area or anywhere for that matter?  Thank you!

The best doctor for hyperparathyroidism is Dr. James Norman in Tampa...well worth his fees and your travel if you have this disease.   ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***

If you have hyperparathyroidism, your calcium levels will fluctuate and it is very possible that your PTH can still have a normal reading. I would recommend you see an endocronoligist and ask them if you have it. According to some labs, normal calcium levels are up to 10.3. What does your Doctor say?.
