Hey all... I am wondering about hypos-how do you deal with them & what are the first signs?  I usually always get hyPERglycemia but I know eventually I will have the hypos and I want to be prepared.  Can you give me an idea about what to expect and how I can avoid them?

You should watch for the following signs for hypoglycemia: hunger, confusion, disorientation, anxiety, sweating, shakiness, and visual disturbances.  If you can be on the alert for these symptoms, you can help get your blood sugar up.  Eat about 15 carb grams of a candy you can chew up and swallow quickly or orange juice.  Check your blood sugar in 15 minutes.  If your blood sugar is still low, eat another 15 grams of carbs.  If you are eating all of your meals and snacks as planned, this will help keep low blood sugars at bay as well.

Oh, I know how hypos feel... it is NOT a good feeling to say the least. I have to tell ya, I feel an aura before I have it so I know to eat something when I feel it upon me. I will get a bit goofy when I have an episode and I have to get something quick or I'll forget what I am doing or black out. Not a very good thing, luckily I have someone who is home with me most of the time in case it happens to go too low. I usually will eat a small Snickers or some soda pop when I have a low catch up with me. I have to make sure I watch it because one time I did have the ambulance called because I had a low blood sugar and they had to give me glucagon for me to get my sugars back up.
