It amazes me that people are so ignorant about opioid addiction, true addiction changes the biochemical structure of the brain and in true addicts the imbalance of chemicals can last a lifetime and cause severe depression years after quitting. This is why recovery programs only have a 10% success rate. Methadone and Suboxone are 2 miracle drugs that when used properly can give addicts their life back. Educate yourself before you say things like "There is NO drug that can be a permanent solution to an addiction!" For some of us it is the only solution...

Thanks for posting this! I've been on heroin, methadone, and now suboxone and I think I will take suboxone for the rest of my life. I've gotten off the streets, I have a great job, I've been clean for 6 years, and take care of my self without any help from anybody. I'm proud of myself and my parents are proud. I finally had to except that this will most likely be a life long thing, but I'm ok with it. I'd love to get off the suboxone but I think of it as anyone who has an illness and takes medication. If I was diabetic and had to take insulin for the rest of my life, I wouldn't feel guilty would I? I'm going to start tapering down but I honestly don't think I'll be off of it any time soon.

Wow you copyed word for word from the suboxone pamplet that you get from your doctor. Just to let you know bup, stop signs, orange whatever you might call it where ever you are from.It is just as addictive as oxys and other opiates

Of course it's addictive! I don't think anyone's saying it's not. I'm just saying for me personally, it may be the only solution.

I also appreciate your comments. Doctors and addicts need to look to brain scans and approach addiction as a chronic disease that it is. It's not a behavioral problem.

Went down the path of Pain Management for my Fibromyalgia. Started on Oxy's ended up on Lortabs. It has been a very hard struggle with the pain, and knowing there's really nothing that helps. This past Summer a friend told me about Sub's and about coming off them. I went to a doctor and started them to come off the Opiates. However, even with Sub's I still have pain and so on. Does Sub's have a drug to come off them??? I'm not trying to be sarcastic. It's just this med that med and "NO RELIEF". ALWAYS IN PAIN

my name is Eric Franklin and I have been taking suboxone 16mg. for about 7 months. I get 60 pills monthly. My medication cost me $430.00. Doe's anyone body know of a good prescription saving's card.

Eric Try buying them somewhere else mine cost $260.00 for 45 - 8 MG Pills at Meijers, sounds like you are paying to much and cut down fast this Suboxone is so addictive it is not even funny, you have to do it on your own, the only other way is Anatheasia Detox, at the cost of $6,700 for 5 day in house detox and outhouse afterwards, Suboxone is an OPIATE just as bad if not worse the Heroin and the doctors knew this fact.

That's interesting because most of the people that I know take took them for a little while and came off with no problem. These people also relapsed some weeks later but they weren't craving anything when they came off of suboxone.

Does anyone else here agree with this? I only have a few suboxone and I've tapered down to 2.5 milligrams/day to which I'm hoping the withdrawals won't be as severe because of this but if the suboxone is just as addictive, what's the point?

Are you talking about long term suboxone use?

suboxone is that addictive, and it is hard to come off of. This is my second treatment with it, and i hope by tapering this time, it won't be as bad as last time, because i had never felt so sick in my life! Shakes, vomit, sweats, can't sleep, muscle aches, chills, prickling sensations. You may ask why am i on it again, and it's because my insurance won't pay for any other kind of meds, so i am in a catch 22. Good luck to you all, but don't be fooled, this drug is VERY HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!! and you do have withdrawels!

I too was wondering about how hellish a withdraw from Sub will be  :'((I am weaned down to 2mg's from 6mg's in a drawn-out 7 months taper and only have like 3 weeks worth of Sub left).  But I don't anticipate being fortunate enough to get more because of (1) I'm unemployed and it's extremely unaffordable. Even the initial APPOINTMENT is like $300 with Sub dr. And (2) Sub drs. are extremely rare to find anyhow, and are usually not taking new patients. So I am certain that a Sub-free life will be one of lifelong depression now that my brain's chemical structure has NO DOUBT changed. When the nosey DEA shut down all the online pharmacies out of the blue, I'm sure that an ENORMOUS amount of people like me suffered and were forced into seeking other options like Sub or the STREETS! I had developed a 190mg's a day of Hydro habit (which takes awhile for that kind of tolerance). But traded addictions for Sub and now I have been on it for like 6-7 freakin' YEARS. Less hoops to jump through to stay out of withdrawal, which is the main advantage. But it's definitely not without repercussions like teeth rot, costly and of course withdrawal from IT when you're faced with it one day. Consider yourself VERY fortunate if your doctor scripts the kind without Naxolene (the ridiculously and unfairly added ingredient that's responsible for potential health & dental issues that can result from use, especially prolonged). Over the last 4 yrs, I have had literally THOUSANDS of dollars of dental work (even root canals & implants from rotting) only to have it happen AGAIN within a year AFTERWARD. If you can't afford dental work, don't risk taking Sub. Because if you plan to stay on it awhile, you WILL eventually have dental issues that appear out of the BLUE! (It escalated to receding gums, which are even MORE susceptible to cavities). Even my IMPLANTS got cavities... from the ROOT UP. Which they have to be pulled in that case. I am considering a Class Action lawsuit now that I have looked into it and there are numerous cases of Sub patients revealing the same thing!

By the way, for those that have taken Sub for more than a couple months.... yes I have heard that it's a b***h to quit. Even when you taper down to a HALF A MILLIGRAM, you STILL aren't going to bypass withdrawal. And they say the mental part (and sleeplessness) lasts longer than the physical w/d's.... sometimes a YEAR or so. That's just what I've heard, and I'm sure results vary. All I know is it has taken 7 months just to taper from 6mg's of Sub to 2mg's. I started off at 8mg's about 7 years ago... and was on that mg for about 4 years. (I had no intention of tapering at that point). Then I gradually brought it down to 6mg's and now I'm at 2. Very scared because I have only enough for like 3 more weeks. And my body knows when it's time for a dose. I had a few bouts of depression during these last 7 years and wanted my Hydro back since the online pharmacies were shut down.... so I went to various pain mgmt doctors but was kicked out of every one of them once that first drug test came & they found Sub in my system. (Unfortunately it stays in your body a lot longer than short acting opiates, and I was addicted to it so I kept taking it AND the opiates prescribed). The longest I have personally gone without Sub is I think 10 days. And for me, that 10th day is when Sub withdrawal starts getting obvious. It would be sooner had I not had opiates to take Sub's place during those 10 days. But I could not experience the euphoria I desperately craved with Hydros while taking Sub too . So I would go as long as I could without Sub.... but it always seemed to show up in my test. I was kicked out of P.M. ONE particular time for not HAVING Hydro in my system. (I had eaten them in less than 2 weeks- because of my high tolerance and not enough prescribed.)
