I experienced "dream flashbacks" during the day.
For no reason in particular I will start to recall some element of what I am sure I can only have dreamed or hallucinated.
Vague images in my mind (which I can never remember afterwards), mixed with reality, are accompanied by nausea.
The experience is confusing and disturbing. It usually passes after few seconds.
Also I suffered from anxiety, panic attacs and sleep paralise for years...
But I dont remember having these hypnagogic hallutinations while I am dreamnig or when I am having sleep paralise.
These flashbacks happening only when I awake in interactions whit s some elements during daytime.
Are these brief "Dream flashbacks" from hypnagogic hallutinations or maybe from night terrors???
Maybe FORCED REMINISTANCE?
This is very disturbing... Should I be worried??? This happening for 5 years on and off... Thank you
I've had no seizures or anxiety disorders in the past, and this has been happening to me for the past 2 years (though, I had 4 or 5 similar flashbacks when I was in middle school). I've scoured the internet for answers, but found nothing satisfying. I have had an EEG and MRI done, but both came up as inconclusive.
One super weird thing for me is that is usually only happens when I'm at home/in my home town. Whenever I'm at college or on vacation, I hardly ever get them besides sometimes when I'm just waking up.
Sorry, that was a random explosion of info. Have you experienced anything similar to what I'm saying?
Kath is right. Based on everything you are all describing, they sound like simple partial seizures (most likely in your temporal lobe). It's a very common form of epilepsy that often gets overlooked because there is no loss of conciouslness. I have had these strange feelings ever since I was a kid. They got much worse in college which lead me to a neurologist. I explained these "weird feelings" of Deja Vu in my waking life. Almost like strong memories or feelings I have felt/experience before. It's hard to describe to people. Closest I can explain is it's a similar sensation as being high from marijuana.
It's normal to feel exhausted after these seizures (which often come in clusters throughout the day). I thankfully have controlled my seizures with Lemictal which has very little side effects. For the past 10 years I have lived a normal life, but more recently have started to get more of these seizures. Mine are always triggered by alcohol or lack of sleep. I often get them when traveling. It's really important to get these taken care of as seizures will grow worse over time after repeated activity.
If anyone has any more questions, please reach out because it's very scary and misunderstood. Happy to offer more advice.
My dream flashbacks are accompanied with some memory problems and confusion. Often, there will be finger numbness (a symptom of migraine). I never had an episode last longer than one or two hours, although the aftereffects linger.
I hope this might be a possible cause for at least some episodes of dream flashbacks.
For some time now i have been getting these strange and frightening feelings. They start as dream flashbacks, sudden quick memories of dreams i had forgotten about. I then become dreamy and surrounding becomes unformiliur , i get forgetfull cant remember things,. Messes my head up for several hours. I also get migrain auras but no head ache and sometimes numb finger tips and numb lip and toungu e. Any ideas or has anyone else have similar symptoms. I do suffer from anxiety and always put it down to that along with constant non vertigo dizziness every hour of the day.
