Hi! This is exactly how I feel. It’s driving me around the bend. I was told I had anxiety with derealisation, but after researching and hearing other people’s experiences…including this thread, I’m not so sure. Have you got any further with a diagnosis? Also, I know how horrible it feels so I hope you are doing ok.
Thank you

Hello to all of you.

Dream flashbacks are a type of flashback, where a person experiences a vivid, dream-like memory of a past event in the middle of the day. These flashbacks can be caused by a variety of things, including trauma, medications, or simply remembering a vivid dream. If you are experiencing dream flashbacks and think that it may be related to a medication you are taking, it is important to speak to your doctor about it.

If you think that you have problems with vivid dreams, know that vivid dreams can be caused by a variety of things, including stress, anxiety, sleep deprivation, medications, and certain foods. To help reduce vivid dreaming, try the following:

  • Get enough sleep. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
  • Avoid caffeine and other stimulants before bed.
  • Practice relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, or deep breathing before bed.
  • Journal before bed to clear your mind of worries and concerns.
  • Avoid alcohol, drugs, and heavy meals before bed.
  • Exercise regularly to help manage stress.

These tips also work with anxiety as it is intertwined with other conditions.

I have had these dream flashbacks for a few years. I have really tried hard to focus on what happens during these episodes… but they just put me into a panic! . It’s like something triggered my brain (even just walking into a room)… suddenly, I get flashbacks of a stressful dream I had. It Only lasts a few seconds, but I get confused about where I am and what the hell happened. My heart starts pounding and i just breathe. THEN… I can’t remember what it was about?!? Very confusing!
It makes me feel crazy on these days, but seeing these posts, I think It’s a real thing!!! I have no other health issues, BTW… Never been diagnosed with depression or anxiety, or anything else.

44 year old female, just went through huge trauma. Having constant dream flashbacks and memories from my childhood. Randomly popping up throughout the day. I also get auras without headache. I'm so tired of trying to explain it to people and no one understanding. Not even doctors. Has anyone found a diagnosis?

Hello everyone.. I just wanted to add my experience to help others also going through this. I first experienced a dream flashback attack earlier this year. Now I get one attack most days. Usually it’s when I’m getting ready in the morning, walking around our house and when I get in my cabinet in our bathroom. Alll of a sudden dreams that I had the night before flood my head and I almost don’t know what is real or not for a couple seconds. I get a little dizzy and overwhelming feelings throughout my body. I usually feel a little out of it for up to an hour. I am a migraine sufferer. I had just started on Nurtec and I finally had a good solution to my migraines and then these started. So I do wonder if they are migraine related. Sometimes after I have an attack, the side of my head where I get migraines feels kind of like it has more pressure. I also notice on days where I drank more water I may not have an attack, but sometimes I still get them when I’ve drank a lot so it’s hard to know if hydration is the reason. I think drinking more water may help but not get rid of them. I would like something to help this. I mentioned it at my neurologist appointment for my migraines and she just suggested that maybe it’s the birth control pill. I’ve been on that for many years and never experienced anything like this. The thing that scares me is my memory has been a lot worse lately. I don’t know if it’s related. Doctors don’t really understand. It’s frustrating but so good to know I’m not alone.

I was wondering if anyone here ever had an episode while driving..? If so, how did you manage, how did it go?
I don't currently drive and I'm starting my course in march and the thought of having an episode hit me while driving terrifies me.
They only ever last a few seconds and I know I'm able to at least type as they happen (I tend to type them out as they occur in my friend chat at work, that way I have something to remember, sorta), but it's such an over whelming feeling, plus with my vision kinda going dark...

There's usually a few seconds before it hits that I know it's coming (or likely about to happen) so I guess there's the option to pull over, but you can't always pull over either.

They don't occur often, usually once or twice a day every 3~ months, but still. The ''what if'' really makes me wonder, should I even be on the road. Am I not a danger to myself and others?
