hi. after having chemotherapy i was left with poor sensation but also increased pressure when standing or walking only a few metres. i was offered a colonoscopy (camera up) in aug 2010, which was fine. however i was still not convinced, as when you know when something isn't right! it wasn't confirmed for a further 1 and a half years! that i had infact suffered from a prolapsed bowel! the problem with a colonoscopy is that the bowel is firstly inflated, this action expands the bowel, taking away any prolapse that the camera cannot see! i had a repair STARR operation last August, a full 2 years after being told "there was no problem! "(thank you Pontefract General Hospital under the consultancy of Mr Basheer" for leaving me to suffer for this time! im not saying you need an operation, but physiotherapy and a session with a dietician may be of benefit for your condition. good luck.

I had the same rectal pressure and I can tell you all what worked for me.   I had blood work and a colonoscopy done on the large intestine and they did not find anything wrong with me.

I went on a diet for Crohns patients even though I have not been diagnosed with crohns. I was desperate didnt know what else to do but it worked.   Because I had the rectal pressure and bloating sometimes, and a friend suggested that I may have irritable bowel or crohns, I started the SCD diet,( the specific carbohydrate diet )and it healed me for a long time I felt completely normal again everything worked great, no pressure ever.. I stopped all spicy food, most all carbs, caffeine, sugar, and used only SCD legal foods. After I was healed and feeling great, with no more pressure I unfortunately went back to a regular diet of processed foods and caffeine and occasional alcohol big no no for inflammation, for months but over did it and the rectal pressure is back in full force again, once it gets flared up it takes a while to get back to normal.  I can't say for sure why I was healed, maybe allergic to some foods, maybe more fiber, maybe all of the above but I can say that the SCD diet works, check out the books on Amazon, read testimonials on it all over facebook or the web. I lost 10lbs too as a bonus. The diet is hard to do because you have to avoid the non legal foods but it makes your colon work perfectly and if you are serious about getting rid of your rectal pressure you will do what it takes for your health. More tips, Add olive oil to your food after it is cooked, not before so that it doesn't go rancid, olive oil at high temp goes rancid and creates free radicals in your body.  Use coconut oil for your cooking and as butter, your brain will thank you too. The olive oil coats the colon and makes the stool slippery so that there is no straining.

Food allergies cause inflammation everywhere, it can be your colon, your bladder, your rectum, you never know and the symptoms are terrible. It can be as simple as a dairy allergy, but you can't just take the simple blood test because those only detect allergies for either i.g.e. or i.g.g. but you need tested for both and a more thorough allergy testing can be done through an Osteopathic doctor.   Following the SCD diet can help you eliminate problem foods and get you back to feeling normal again. Just my 2 cents from experience.  Yeast causes inflammation too and can affect your whole body including the rectal pressure.  Stop the sugar, dairy and carbs.  The weight loss and the foggy feeling in my head, the feeling tired all the time when I woke up in the morning went away too. Another recommendation is to go the Paleo way and do a caveman diet.  It is very similar to the SCD diet.

By following the Paleo diet you will eat the way are ancestors did and are intended to eat The stuff we eat now is killing us. Stay away from medications, Motrin almost killed me. Your body can heal itself if you work with it. Take a spoon of manuka honey daily, Get a juicer. SCD works miracles on kids with autism, food allergies wreak havoc on you. Ill shut up now. If you dont want to get better dont listen to me.

Hi All,

I am not a doctor and please do not mistake this for medical advice.  Any rectal discomfort especially when accompanied with bleeding needs to be treated by a doctor.  I do want to tell you all my story though.  I am a 35 year old mother of two small children.  When my daughter was born 6 years ago, I began having rectal discomfort that eventually subsided.  17 months later when my son was born, I began having rectal bleeding and was seen by MANY doctors, had 2 colonoscopys and then 3 IRC treatments and just like that...my pain was gone (temporarily).  Turned out it was pretty bad hemorrhoids.  Fast forward to about a year and a half ago.  I began feeling slight pressure in my rectum and thought to myself...here we go again.  However, this time it was different.  It was pressure and pain and bleeding.  I felt like I was living in the tub, soaking, or on the toilet trying to go.  Nothing releived the pain/pressure and doctors weren't helping any.  I was prescribed valium then later xanax and the DRs were telling me these meds would help me to 'relax' my rectum.  They didn't help, I felt awful.  About 3 weeks ago, I went to see another doctor and explained my frustration.  He simply examined me and said I had a fissure.  I thought...Great, another doctor with the same diagnosis!  Turns out this doctor didn't give me percocet or valium or xanax.  He told me to stop taking them and to start drinking one tablespoon of metamucil with 16 oz of water EVERY morning.  He told me to get preparation H cream and put it on before a bowel movement.  He also told me to insert a glycerin suppository BEFORE each bowel movement and to have a warm bath ready for when I am done going.  I thought...WHATEVER....this will never work....but I tried it!  Guess what...it worked.  I am having healthy BMs that are super easy to pass every morning.  The pressure is gone.  I follow his instructions to a T and I am so happy I found him.  This had been plaguing me and interuppting my life.  I have been relatively pressure/pain free for about 2 weeks.  PLEASE TRY IT after seeing your doctor to rule out a more serious condition.  It worked and I am amazed that all of the things I needed were always at my local grocery store.

I know that this post is 7 years old but i am having very similar symptoms to yours and I was curious if you ever figured it out, and what you did to stop it. There's no way you'll ever see this but who knows haha

hey there. well i have been to serveral doctors about my pain and pressure and still come up with nothing, i still yet to have a ct scan. i have just givin up on finding any relief. the pain pills didnt help much and the injection i got in my back help for only 5 days. so i am using something from long ago to ease the pain. it keeps me on the couch and i do nothing allday but lay on the couch. my back hasn hurt in 6 to 7 days. as far as the pressure goes, i have just gotten use to it. it bothers me sometime, mostly when i am laying down. oh and the pressure has moved from rectal pressure and went to the around my privates parts. thats where the pressure is now.

What kind of surgery?  I had a hysterectomy and am having issues because I have a redundant sigmoid.  It has prolapsed and is causing my pressure.  Pretty sure I will have a sigmoidectomy.

I also have the same problem. There is pressure in my rectum, and a feeling of irritation. I do a lot of sitting, for many hours a day, and I think it may be from that. Can anyone help?

I am having the same thing. I was using fish oil as an anti-inflammatorey and you should read about all the side effects that fish oil pills have!!! They can cause internal bleeding of the stomach, intestines, and brain. My poop was turing black even. My husband had the same problem with explosive episodes of diarrhea and rectal pain and lots of pressure. We stopped taking them about a week ago. He feels better but I don't yet. I am hoping this is what it is. Do you take fish oil? You are not even supposed to drink alchohol while on them coz that can make your side effects even worse and I drink beer quite often. I figure that's why I am having a longer time healing than my hubby did. He rarely drinks.
