About two months ago, I developed pressure and pain in my rectal area. A day later I noticed red streaks of blood in my stool. About two days later, I had the blood all over the bowl. I could barely sit and drive to the ER. Once at the ER, I was examined and given a cat scan. The scan showed nothing. The ER doc thought my prostate was enlarged and may have given me the pain. Another ER doc thought I had a fissure from a hard bowel movement. I was given Nitroglycerin cream to apply to the anus. It really did not help much. I went to a Rectal doc who gave me an antibiotic and told me to change my diet. No beer, cheese, coffee, corn, nuts, and wine. Add fiber and see him in a month. I did feel better but today I have the pressure back. I will go for a colonoscopy in a couple weeks. So far no blood just pressure after a bowel movement. I feel great until I go to the bathroom and than the pressure starts up and lasts for hours. Anyone having this issue or suggestions? THX

Im a 22 year old female, and have always had constipation problems since i hit puberty at 12. I dont have rectal pressure unless its right before i have to go, which is maybe once a week....  it is always relived at my period where im able to go easier...but I got my IUD in the other day and it constntly feels like i have to go with the insane presure in my rectum plus my period camps and the cramping from the IUD. I drank some coffee because i havnt taken a number a 2 in a little over a week and trying to get things moving. Im drinking glasses of water and i walk to work or ride my bike daily. Im going absolutly crazy.

I wish everyone here the best of health and a relief from these annoying symptoms.

I am age 62. I do not consume alcohol, tobacco, or meat. I weight lift and run regularly (as I've done most of my adult life). I'm required to take a DOT physical every two years; my usual measurables, such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels, are very low.

Some weeks ago I began experiencing the bowel/rectal pressure others here have described.

Nights, I drive a semi-tractor-trailer locally, usual shifts are 11-12 hours. Often, trips are sitting for 40 minutes. But, I'm out of the seat at least a dozen times per shift. At home, I spend as many hours sitting at the PC using CAD software for a tiny home business.

Could my problem originate with all the time I spend sitting? (I believe something similar was mentioned early in this thread.)

Thank you much.

You could have something called a rectal intussusception - you will find it on the net if you search. This is where part of the rectum telescopes inwards on itself. Whilst the cause is not known for sure one strong theory that it is caused in men by lifting heavy weights and in women by childbirth although other people can get it as well. Most family doctors will not be aware or check for this so you need to see a consultant.

Hi! I have the same problem - but it is more the psychological nature - it is something with the fear to do - if you constantly fear about something - fear to let go something, or fear about losing something or the fear about surviving - than it will make your rectum tense - it's like youre preparing for a fight or a runaway. You need to relax more - or try meditation or yoga - you need to get rid of past worries or overcome the old things or memmories. Good position for relaxing the rectum is to bend youre legs to your tors - or just the squat positon and also try to use the squat positon when youre using the toilet - it relives the bowels.

I also have this problem. Horrible feeling of pressure and sometimes pain in the rectum. I have IBS and have had loose thin stools for a few years now. The pressure feeling gas got much worse in the last few weeks. My doctor gave me a rectal examination 2 weeks ago and said everything felt normal but if symptoms persist I must have a colonoscopy. I am so scared to have this done as I have convinced myself that I must have something horrible! Any advice would be truly appreciated.

It sounds like you could have pelvic floor dysfunction. Its where the muscles don't work in conjunction with each other creating a tightness which can be perceived as a constant pressure. Ask your doc about that.  Ihave that and the pressure is terrible. if you can do some biofeedback to relax your muscles the pressure will go away along with any pain you may have with it.

It sounds like you have a rectal intussusception. Google it and then ask a specialist to check for you.
