I'm a 15 year old girl and having a really hard time in school. People are always saying that I am musky. I don't know what to do. I'v been to the doctor three times and he told me that I don't have an odor and that I don't sweat abnormally. I don't understand it if I don't smell then why do people say I do. It sucks bcause I've tried everything even clinical strength deodorant and it still doesn't work. I'm quitting all sports even volleyball which I love because of this problem and I'm switching schools. Even some adults have said it but what I don't get is that if my doctor said its not true then why do these people say it is. I just want someone to help me figure this out because don't know where else to turn.
This is so horrible for you. Here are some thoughts. Could the odor be coming from your clothes or your home or your hair. If you sweat in your head, it can create a very unpleasant odor that is noticeable when people are standing in close proximity to you. Many times smokers are not aware of how strong of an odor they carry. Are you using a bath wash that is also an antibacterial? That can be a biggie. All of them are not. Seriously consider if your home has an odor or if your clothes may carry an odor. If your doctor is denying your problem based on a single visit or two, you need to see a different doctor. That is your right....Take advantage of it. Is your deodorant an antiperspirant also? Some of them are not. If none of the home, self issues are the problem....Keep asking questions of the doctors. Hopefully someone else in this online community can be of help as well. There is a solution for you...Try the things I've mentioned and let us know.
I think it's a really hard thing to hear but it's good that people feel comfortable enough with you to tell you that there is an issue. As for the issue, it's hard for you to replicate things because when you sweat seems to be when you actually have an issue with smell. I know that sometimes your diet can also impact your odor--there is an unfortunate disorder where sometimes when people eat fish, they smell like fish! I'd investigate those issues with your doctor or maybe get a second opinion with a dermatologist. Good luck to you.
I think the best thing for you is to go and see a dermatologist. You have this condition and I think that only dermatologist can help you. They need to find what is causing your problem, and find a solution to this.
I don't think that you need to quit volleyball, it's something that you like.
Have you tried having multiply showers a day, like 4-5 showers a day?

I didn't start having this problem until 7th grade. I'm an athlete so of course I shower at least twice a day, I use antibacterial soap or deodorant soap, antiperspirant clinical strenght deodorant, powder and any other thing I can use to prevent it from happening. I don't smell all the time some days I actually smell good but then other days its the exact opposite
Someone above has mentioned something about food. Do you think it might be connected with the food you are eating? Or maybe a weather (rainy or sunny)? It's little strange that you are having this condition, because you take good care of your body.
I try to eat healthy foods like fruits and salads. I do have a tendency to eat a lot of sweets and french fries though. Usually my problem is more severe in hotter weather so I try to put on a little more deodorant.
I think that I may have figured out what your issue is. If you eat a lot of sweets, I know that in some women it can cause an increase in vaginal secretions which can cause a musky smell. If you can, experimentally, try scaling back on eating sweets to see if that helps you. Because the heat plus some sweets would probably create the problem that you refer to. Keep us posted on the issue. I know that it's an embarrassing problem to have but you seem dedicated to fixing the problem! And we're all rooting for you.

Things don't seem to be getting any better and frankly I don't know what to do or who to believe anymore but thank you all for your suggestions.
I know that you are probably feeling very frustrated right now and that's understandable. Were you able to scale back on sweet foods or did you see a dermatologist or anything like that? Being 15 and having a health issue can be so awful because you're already self-conscious, so please understand that we're all here for you. How did it go?
