i've a JONES FRACTURE in my left foot, and my doctor put my in a hard cast (fiber glass) for & WEEKS and told not to put any weight on it..

yesterday i had a new X-rays which shows some healing (not much as we both expexted) so i got nervous and consulted another doctor which told me to remove the cast and start to put some weight on the foot!

is this the right progress or i should just wait in NWB cast as my 1st doc said?!!!

Hello,

Goodness, that really sound contradictory.  Your foot carries most of your weight from above.  If it has a fracture and you place weight on it, that would make the fracture worse.  The fact that your foot isn't healing as fast as the doctor and you thought doesn't mean you should take off your cast.  In my opinion, keep the cast on and stay off that foot for as long as possible.  The cast holds your foot together to keep your bones in place.  If you take the cast off there won't be anything there to suppport your foot.  I would definitely keep the cast on for some time to come.  That's my two cents.  Hope that was helpful.  And, good luck with that.

thank you Susan for replying :)

well, i went with the 2nd doc opinion and i removed the cast. this is my 3rd day and it`s such a relief having my foot free of the fiber glass!!

Doctor said i should start put some weight on my healing foot, and increase the weight slowly..

this is my third day and i feel comfortable (with aid of crutches of course), and i will have a new X-rays next week, hope i will see an improvement!
