In mid January 2014, using my own palatal tissue, I had connective tissue grafting done on a piece of receding gum in my lower left side. I have a very high tolerance for pain but the entire procedure -- start to finish -- was a disaster! Not only was the procedure intense, invasive and the pain searing both during as well as after the procedure, I developed an infection despite being on antibiotics. It got so bad that 3 weeks later, my periodontal surgeon had to reopen the palate, clean out the infection and stitch me back again! The discomfort was excruciating!
Now, I have another tooth on the lower right that requires gum grafting. The periodontist suggested using alloderm to eliminate the need to surgically remove tissue from my palate. However, after reading about the experiences of using Alloderm, I'm even more afraid!
