I am so glad that I hit onto this site. A couple of weeks ago I knelt down on the floor and my left knee on the outside of it started burning big time. As soon as I got up it was fine. Doesn't bother me when I walk. Only when I kneel down on it and put any pressure. It is a painful burning. Was wondering if anyone got an answer yet on this. I am taking Ibprofen, which helps somewhat. But would like to know more about it. Thank you!!!

Look up Meralgia Paresthetica to see if it fits your descriptions.

exactly the pain in my knee especially when kneeling

It's not Meralgia paraesthetica though it is similar in that it is a nerve pain, not caused by ligaments or tendons or muscle.  I suffer from both.  The thigh pain is not as sharp or sudden.

After 6 months of chronic burning in my knees I finally found out what was wrong after reading your concern. I had x-rays, and detailed blood work done & nothing was found. What drew my attention with your concern is that I was able to realize that the burning was truly under the skin and it was a sensation that moved around. There were times I thought it was gone, but it would come back again. I finally realized that a lotion I started using from Avon was the cause. I stopped using it immediately and I am on day 3 and the burning has completely stopped. Thank you & hopefully this is of help to you, and many others that are experiencing this problem with no answers.

I have had this issue with my knees for almost as long as I can remember...certainly for years.  It has never been as pronounced as it is now and I'm just not sure why.  Both knees will burn when kneeled upon, but the right knee burns far more intensely.  It's down (i.e., toward the foot) from and to the the right of the kneecap.  This is particularly concerning as I am a yoga teacher.  So far, I've seen no answers here...not even anything that is particularly helpful.  I can say without a doubt that it has nothing to do with the lotion I use.  I thought briefly of gout, but after reading the description of that condition, it just doesn't sound like it to me.

My knee never bothers me unless I try to kneel on it and then, as I said, it's not the kneecap, per se, but an area just below it and to the right.  I guess I'll just keep looking, but it is comforting somehow to know that other people have this weird quirk, too.

I have the same problem, I went and had a massage. I explained to her the burning feeling in my knees and she recommended Putting ICE on them. She also recommended yoga so the muscles could be stretched. I've got this rub on called Biofreeze and it seems to really help. Sorry to hear about this problem to others that have it..

I'm not nuts!!! I have the same thing on the side of my knee....when I kneel down on it, it feels like rug burn. But when I touch it, I don't feel anything and there is no signs of bruising for redness. I had the same thing months ago on the shin of my other leg. Was exercising then so I thought I did something to it but not this time. Does anyone know what this is?

Hi,
I am wondering if you have found any solution for this problem. I am having the same symptoms, the burning sensation in my knee area when my knee rubs against the leg of my pants. It is been going on for couple of months.
I appreciate your help.

I FIGURED IT OUT!!

I have the same pain.  It feels absolutely fine, but when I kneel on the bed at night, I get the sensation of a rug burn along the outside of my knee.

I was intrigued by one of the posts that noted the symptoms seem to be similar to symptoms of post patellar surgery.  So, I started poking my knee around the knee cap.  I found a spot below my patella that, when touched, sends a jolting pain through a nerve along the outside of the knee.

I remember that as a kid, we would pinch somewhere behind the upper arm, and it would be felt in a different location.  This is similar.  When I kneel, the pain is more distributed, but when I poke the right spot with my finger, I can almost feel electricity shoot around the side of my knee and the pain is in one, particular spot.  It doesn't feel like a rug burn when I poke the nerve, as compared to kneeling.  It's rather uncomfortable!

Apparently, that nerve was irritated by something.  I wonder if it is the result of the ice skating I did a few weeks ago.  I didn't fall, but maybe just the strain caused some irritation.  Other than that, I can't think of anything I might have done to it.  The knee feels strong and I have no arthritis history in my family or personally.

Same exact feeling in my left knee. Just started few weeks ago. outside of knee appears totally normal but then when my leg is bent(after being straight for a bit) I get the feeling as if scab is being torn open. Has anyone come across a cure/solution?
