I have abnormally swollen veins in the anus. I guess that is what is called hemmeriods. They are much like varicose veins you might see on legs. Sometimes I feel it swell, burn, and itch, becoming very painful, sometimes even bleeding a little. I would like to know why we get it and do I have to see my doctor, also what kind of treatment they use for hemmeriods?

Hemmeriods are caused by too much pressure in the rectum with forcing blood to bulge the walls of veins sometimes and rupturing them. Reasons for getting it are constant sitting, diarrhea, sitting on the toilet for a long time, severe coughing, heavy lifting, childbirth and so on.... First step of treatment is finding cause of your hemmeriods and stop it. When you eliminate factors using them it’s time for treatment. There are two treatment goals: first one is to take away the symptoms like burning, pain and itching are. Second is to shrink the hemmeriods. Some of recommended products are Aleve, which is anti-inflammatory medication. Anusol HC cream is for swollen external hemmeriods, reducing swelling, burning and itching sensations. Citrucel softening stools and treating constipation, which are crucial aspects of treating your hemmeriods.
