I bought some pine-nuts to be used as ingredients in a pasta meal I was planning yesterday and I couldn't resist the urge to open the package and try some. They were lovely. The thing is that, ever since I ate these pine-nuts, I have a bitter taste in my mouth and I have lost any other sense of taste. What is this? Am I going crazy? Can my loss of taste be connected to the pine-nuts?
In one word YES! I found out about this myself last year, when the same thing happened to me. I had a bitter taste in my mouth all the time, and for lack of any better phrase, I remember inserting "everything tastes bitter" into google. Sure enough, I got lots and lots of linked to websites telling me that Chinese pine nuts cause a bitter taste sometimes. And indeed, I had been eating pine nuts a day earlier. The bad news is that the bitter taste will stay with you for a week or even longer, and there is nothing you can do to make it better. The good news is that you are not crazy, and that you can avoid buying Chinese pine nuts in future.
