How do you get the Afrin bottle open to dilute it? I can't get mine open and I'm desperate!

Hey there! I have had sinus problems my entire life and started taking afrin when I was about 14 and used it way too much until very recently. It IS addictive and if you are unable to stop, you are definitely addicted! As a long time user, I will tell you first hand that quitting is not as easy as just stopping using it! Rebound congestion is terrible! You should stop using it, though! What I found worked for me was Rhinocort (it is an allergy spray that is non-addictive and non-harmful), I did 2 sprays once every 24 hours (I used it at night because that is when I had the most trouble breathing). After about a week, I was down to only using afrin 2-3 times a day and within 3 weeks I was able to completely get off of afrin. I DO use saline nasal spray now which works now that I am no longer addicted to afrin! (Saline spray is perfectly safe and you can use it 100 times a day if you want to). Good luck to you and kicking this nasty habbit, it isn't easy, but it feels amazing to no longer rely on it!!

I just ordered the RhinoCort... It should be here this week. Thanks for posting this. I thought I was going crazy until I found this forum.

What happened with the atrophic rhinitis. Did they fix it. Are you off Afrin.

My problem with the companies that make it are, if they know three days is the max, why is the bottle big enough to last a few weeks. They f*****g know this will happen to everyone, and they get to sell bottles by the millions. The bottle should only hold 12 sprays.

What I've done is slowly wean my way down mixing the spray with saline solution. Try each solution for 2-3 weeks. See how far you can go. There is way less rebound effect with high dilutions. Get a baby Med syringe or a regular syringe without a needle.

These calculations are based on .05 strength. For small fractions like 1:2 , you can measure out 1 ml nasal solution to 2 ml saline. You can make a few weeks supply : for example , 8 ml to 16 ml saline. That will give you 24 ml of total diluted solution.

If the sinus buster doesn't work try sinusoothe nasal spray. It helped me get off the Afrin and I was hooked bad!!!

They were merely making a suggestion. Your doctor would know what medications you are or have reactions to and if Flonase is doesn't counteract with any of them, why not try it? I have been on Flonase in the past before I had ever used OTC nasal spray. It didn't work that great back then but now that I can't seem to go a day without nasal spray, I think I may try that again.

Try the sinusoothers nose spray. it worked for me. Heck - I was going through nearly a bottle of afrin every two days - now I don't have too touch the stuff.
