Well lately Ive started my own kind of diet. I have acute pancreatitis, but sometimes I feel the need to constantly eat, but I kept getting mad. Now I just recently found a few snacks that dont irritate me along with some breakfast, lunch and dinner suggestions. Ill start with breakfast. I eat Blue Berry Greek Yogurt (No fat and no sugars) which has a good amount of protein and an Apple or Banana for breakfast. The blueberry contains Anti-Oxidants which are great in reducing damage to the pancreas (atleast from what Ive read, not to mention it tastes great). For a mid day snack I eat Snyders of Hanover Pretzels. Now the pretzels dont contain any fat and has less then 1 gram of sugar and has a good amount of nutrients. Now the only down side about the pretzels is it has Enriched flour (this has something to do with people who have diebetes idk), but it doesnt effect me and it lets me kinda Binge a bit cause I have the need to constantly eat. The other snack I eat are Veggie Chips. Now they contain about 7-10 grams of fat, but from what I'm told its ok to be on a low fat diet anyway and not to mention they taste amazing (for some you might want to eat in moderation, but it hasn't upset my tummy!). Then for lunch I'd grab a spinach salad with tomatoes, 1 boiled egg (get rid of the yellow stuff inside of it), 3 tiny squares of turkey and an apple (or fruit) with some wheat crackers on the side. then I may get another mid day snack (pretzels or vegge chips or just another Blue Berry Greek Yogurt). Finally for Dinner I eat Campbells Vegetable. However it may contain a bit of Beef Stock it has alot of vegetables. Thats all I have and ALWAYS READ THE LABELS, not to mention drink plenty of water. stay away from fats or more then 20 grams of fat, candies and most proccessed foods. I'm no nutritionist, but these are tummy friendly foods and give me the nutrients I need for the day. P.s I work out 5 days a week. I really hope it helps. Sincerely a new member of the pancreatitis team.

My husband was diagnosed with Pancreatitis almost 6 years ago. He wasn't a heavy drinker but he drank regularly. Right before it happened he had a toothache and to kill the pain he drank a little too much. The toothache went away but his stomach started hurting severely. He spent two months in the hospital before being sent home on a feeding tube bypassing his pancreas  with predigested liquid food. 85 to 90% of his pancreas had died. He was unable to eat or drink for 6 months, all he could do was swish water in his mouth and spit it out. After he was finally allowed to eat for a month (he only ate extremely low fat foods and very little of that) he got really sick and throwing up again but no pain. We took him to the hospital and they said flu and sent him home. After a few weeks we went to the doctor and asked her to admit him because he couldn't hold anything down. Turns out he had an infection and it had caused his intestines to swell shut so nothing could pass through and it would come back up eventually. He had to have surgery to drain infected fluid and he was in the hospital for another month and another feeding tube for a few months. When he could finally eat again we were very cautious, no alcohol of course and very low fat foods. He did fine with it, but he had lost so much weight we had a hard time getting him to eat enough to gain some without added fat, so lots of carbs. His dad found a herbal supliment called pancreatin online and had him try it. Our doctor said she didn't think it would help but that it couldn't hurt. Well after so long my husband has only had 3 reoccurences of his pancreatitis, never as severe, and it was always times when he wasn't taking the pancreatin. And my husband eats normally while taking it, he just doesn't binge on food but he eats fried foods in moderation, and even occasionally gets the whopper that he loves. I am not saying it will work the same with everyone but it might help.

Hi there, my daughter was in a very bad car accident and she has blunt trauma force to her pancreas. She had major abdominal surgery and now is trying to find foods she can eat. Has anyone out there had this and do you have a list of the kinds of foods she can eat. I know some of it is trial and error. Thank you!

I had Chronic Pancreatitus and nearly did whilst being medi-vaced from Africa, along with a doctor. After having the begers procedure which took 10 1/2 hours under the knife, I am prescribed 20mg Omeprosol every morning and Creon every time I eat. For snacks I take 1 or 2 25000 tablet of Creon, for meals I take 1 or 2 40000 Tablet of creon. Creon is a Pancreas enzyme, same the Pancreas makes to digest food. I lost the head of my Pancreas so will be a class 1 diabetic in years to come. Everyone who suffers from Pancreatitus has my sympathy!! Avoid beef as all costs, anything fatty, greasy, oily etc. Baby food is safe. Eat as many vegetables as you can, these are powerful antioxidants and will prevent Pancreatitus if eaten 5 times a day in small amounts. Andy Lang. Swansea, Wales.

i have recently come out of hospital after suffering acute pancreatitis, yes it does sound like it, maybe another form ie chronic pancreatitis, its worth going and getting tests done.  As for the stomach mine swelled like a balloon and felt like it was going to pop i also suffered pain worse than labour.  From what i have researched it seems that omeprazole is definitely one of the best prescribed drugs and a diet to suit avoiding fatty foods, i am still experimenting with what i can and cannot eat as it seems to vary with everyone but so far the safest is simply porridge oats cooked in water. I wish you all the best.

Yes, I gave up a 6-pack a day Diet Coke habit cold turkey the day after my first attack.
That was in 2007. I think it would be to drink carbonated drinks again, but I don't really miss them, oddly.

Bu FYI, avoiding them won't prevent another attack. I've had 2 since.

I had coffee with my last 2 serious attacks, But it was with breakfast; ham, eggs, suasage etc. Also after a night of drinking. In my mind it was the icing on the cake and I haven't touched coffee since.
I just got home from the grocery store and It's a lot of whole grain pasta, english muffins and sandwhich thins with low fat cheese for my lean turkey sandwiches, skinless chicken, skim milk, fat free candy and ice cream (gotta have some treat). Brown rice, bannanas.
Ritz has a low fat and veggie cracker. I eat them plain.
Every so often I fall off the wagon, that's the real pain. So far no SERIOUS attack in 17 months but that doesn't mean I haven't had a few painful reminders of my condition.

Wow, the 'avoid' list is everything I eat, almost. That list doesn't leave much that I can eat. I guess that's why I've been having such a hard time with pain. My gastro told me I can eat a regular diet, which I took to mean, whatever I want. I think I'll consult a dietician.

You all need to do what your doctor tell you to, reading through this messages I have found conflicting statements, right my doctor has me on jell-o juice and water and I can have Veggie broth no fat no protein. If my pain doesn't get better or if this doesn't clear up I will be admitted to the hospital for IV treatment. Low protien and fat as you start back on to foods and really avoid fatty foods altogether, plus it depends on your body for certain foods.

I just had my gallbladder out two months ago and no have this, was told because I had a thickened gallbladder with granuals not stones they thing there may be some left in the biol duct (sorry if my spelling is off). I feel all of your pain.

Yes - feels like stomache pushed out in front and squishy. Pain through to back and yellowish stools. Avoid all cheese, dairy, crackers pretzels and anything with white flour drink organic detox, dandelion, chamomile and pure filtered water. Grass-fed beef, organic chicken or wild craft fish, eat fresh cilantro, basil, marjoram (best if you get plant and chew fresh as has all enzymes that way) use only organic coconut oil as your fat source. I've been told to eat saurkraut and fermented foods. We fermented our own berries this summer and that makes me feel very good when I eat or drink the juice. Drink organic lemon, lime and apple cider vinegar or cucumber juice.
