If you want to know how I have done it I have a blog that explains it all including how to prep for a food diary, do the food diary properly, what to eat, what to avoid, how to heal the inflammation and keep it at bay. Everything you need to know in order to heal and live pain free is right here: http://beatingpancreatitis.com

If you are still wondering what foods to avoid, or for anyone needing this information, I have a list of foods you can and cannot eat with chronic pancreatitis. It ticks me off when I see people write that you cannot have whole or low fat milk. Obviously these people are not informed or if they have pancreatitis, they are living in pain. Doctors don't even tell you what I'm about to tell you, I wish more of these doctors investigated the diet where pancreatitis is concerned, all they investigate is medication, and there isn't any medication that will cure you, only help you, so it's better to investigate the diet. Please avoid ALL milk products. No milk, you shouldn't even have skim milk, no cheese, you shouldn't eat ANY cheese, not even yogurt. Do not eat any oils, that even means olive oil, no butter, anything that has these included, yes that includes bread, biscuits, salad dressings. You should eat more rice, brown rice only, grilled chicken, grilled fish(low fat fish, like tuna, tilipia, flounder, & although I haven't tried it yet Orange Roughy I've heard is good and low-fat), try not to eat white flour or white rice products, although a little write rice is better than nothing. Eat cereals that aren't as processed like rice chex, corn chex, and simular kinds, also oatmeal(old fashioned variety), any cereal that is puffed is starchy and hard on your pancreas. Eat more fruits and veggies, very colorful variety, nuts are obviously out because of the fat, although some people can tolerate a few seeds and nuts. Also quona is very good and easy to digest. Some people can eat beans with no problems, but just not too many, but beans and rice make a complete protein, like meat. Quona is also a complete protein like meat too.Everything you can think of that is natural, you can and should eat, also you can eat foods that are limited processes, example would be rice chex. I know this because my husband lives a daily struggle with this disease. Many people follow a low fat diet without knowing to get milk and oils out of their diet, my husband has even a trace of these and they hurt him. You many not be able to be pain free, but if you follow these basic steps, you will see a huge reduction in pain. He also has an autoimmune disease, but I think most of his pain comes from pancreatitis. An example, one time I was making him honey mustard chicken, he eats it with brown rice, and I added a season that I didn't know had canola oil added to it, it was like the last ingredient, he had this a few times in one week, it ended up him going to the ER. He does have pain, but now it's been vastly reduced. I feel so sorry for those of you that are struggling and don't know what to eat, I've read where people were living on bread and skim milk, and of course still in pain because of the milk and oil that was in the bread. I am thinking about writing a recipe book devoted to only chronic pancreatitis, as this isn't researched enough, and this diet needs to be recommended by doctors, you shouldn't have to get on the internet to see what to eat, it's sad a dozen years in medical school and doctors still know less about what type of a diet you should be on for this or that-like autoimmune's and pancreatitis, but they're great at prescribing meds. I'm not putting down doctors, well not fully, I think they should have to go through more nutritional classes then they do, maybe it would be more helpful to those that need it. Nutrition should be a key essential in learning to be a doctor.

What I meant to say is it ticks me off when people reply not to drink low fat or whole milk, eluding those with pancreatitis that they can drink skim milk. If you have pancreatitis, you shouldn't drink milk or eat any milk products. Not even yogurt. My husband use to eat yogurt until he was in too much pain from it. A normal person shouldn't even have milk products without taking an enzyme such as to help them digest the milk. Milk is very hard on everyone's pancreas, and has been shown that it's one of the factors in juvenile diabetes. Of course you will not find any governmental studies on the subject of milk's effect on the pancreas, because they are for the dairy farmers. Look up, or google studies on milk and the pancreas. When I did this I found many studies stating that were against milk, that after the age of 2 you no longer have enzymes that aid in digestion of milk. I actually found a doctor that was stating milk is good for pancreatic islet cells, which is a load of bologna and I couldn't believe the hogwash when I read it. In one study the government did on diabetes 1 and 2 it state you should choose low fat or skim milk. How about no milk period, that will help diabetes. At one time milk wasn't a big part of the diet, yes it was used, but it wasn't drank or used by people as widely as it is today. Many factors like this is the key to showing why we have so many health problems in today's world where people may be living longer, but they are living longer and are living sicker with so many health problems nowadays.

I have had symptoms similar to this. I had bad gas pains that would last for several hours. When I went to emergency room was just mostly ignored and sent home. Dr ran tests and gall bladder was always ok. Got real sick coming home from Tn. and went to emergency room in Coffeeville,Ks. Thank God the Dr. there did something. My pancreatic enzymes were through the roof. He also did another gall bladder test, I told him i had had several and he said this time he was going to use real cream. It came back positive. Had gallbladder out and was or felt a lot better until I got a flu shot. Have been having trouble again, but not really pain they talk about. I just kind of feel like I have a side ache. My enzymes are always high and my pancreas is terribly scarred from having attacks for so long. I got so i could hardly eat, started taking pancreatic enzymes, garlic pills, Q10, raw pancreas, probiotic acidophilus and chromium polynicotinate. You can look this up in Prescription for Nutritional Healing. At least i can eat again, but have to watch what I eat like fried foods, sugar, milk products to name a few. Hope this helps. you feel really helpless and dr. are not much help. My specialist told me when I showed him what the book said, replied, I don't teach that. My reg dr. said everyone's dying of something. big help. Good luck.

Doctors don't know sh*t. I've been dealing with this for 4 years. My first episode lasted for a month. They still can't tell me anything but accuse me of being an alcoholic and giving me pain meds. I'm 25 and eat a low fat diet never drink and usually in pain from either constipation or because my stomach hates life because clearly they can't come up with anything else.

I am experiencing the same thing....I am now going to a Gastrointestinal Specialist. I have a GI scope and a CT of my abdomen and pelvic next week. The ER doc looked at me as if was a flaming alcoholic and pumped me full of Morphine...My reg doc just gave me a 100 Vicodin and called it a day.
