:-D hello to everyone out there, ive just joined :$ I was just reading the articles on anxiety attacks, alcohol or coming off it. I related to this so much i had to join. I really luv knowing that there are others who experience exactly wot im going through %-) o.O. As the way i get sometimes feels like i am not on this planet and abnormal. I am a binge drinker mostly bcus it gives me confidence and seems 2 take the anxiety away when i get them. 8-|
well i am new here.. ur post was the first ive read and omg i ve recently dealt with the same thing...
go out with your friends still but try not drinkin as much...get a few friends to (not drink) "detox" from alcohol w u for at least several months (6) is best because its truely how long it takes the body to completely cycle out toxins from the body.
as wierd and doesnt make sense as it is...alcohol is a depressant which is what causes anxiety during sober hrs of the day mostly the next few days after bingeing_and during the rest of the week.
In my life its caused deep depression and sleep deprivation. which leads to all kinds of weird problems.
Drinking is also a hinderance to maturity and growth in ur confidence. its a fake confidence. the more i go out and dont drink im able to be more and more confidence cause im able to practice it. Go back to where ur real and true source of confidence comes from! and use that when ur alone, with friends or with opposite sex.
hope this helps!

That's good advice Cajun Tot.
I had a similar problem when I was in college. My face was covered in acne and one of my favorite ways to cope with it was to go out drinking with my friends.
Have you thought about seeing a professional about your problem. They might be able to talk you through it. Or perhaps you might need an anti-anxiety medication.
Good luck. :-)

Newbie here too.
That is good advice from Cajun Tot.
I've had severe panic disorder and GAD for 20 years. The fact is, most people will self-medicate with alcohol or another drug unless they seek medical attention. If they don't seek good medical help, they will keep self medicating to kill the pain and frequently will continue to do it which will make things worse.
Of course, most of the medications prescribed by physicians are addictive (not just sedatives but antidepressants too which are usually front-line, first pick drugs for anxiety). At least working with a good doctor (preferably a shrink who is up on medications and newer treatments) will be able to safely and comfortably get you off of medications when necessary with taperings and med switches.

Self-medication is awfully tempting but is ultimately the most harmful thing you can do. Confronting your anxiety can be an incredibly painful experience but necessary. Otherwise, you can't just be under the influence your entire life.
