I have this kid in the school that provides me with Ritalin. I like to inject it after dissolving it in water. But last time he gave me Ritalin I didnt check the date of expiration. I had taken it from him for long time and I had trusted him. But I was wrong. I had taken the expired Ritalin. What will happen? It has expired two months ago.
Dont worry it is not so dangerous. I had the friend who had take only expired Ritalin because he had some girl in pharmacy that have managed to get him expired Ritalin. The effects will be decreased but it cant become dangerous so fast. But if you are going to continue to use it maybe it would be wise to take it orally.

Do you want to die a young death or are you just stupid? Injecting Ritalin or any stimulant that is made for oral delivery is insane and illegal. Wait till you develop a huge abscess in your neck or pulmonary hypertention...then what??

I'm a nurse and I can tell you that injecting substances into your blood that were meant to be processed by your liver ACTUALLY get processed elsewhere and can be very harmful. At the hospital people have died by making that mistake.

Whatever, you're young and invincible right? Google your facts first.

Uh, nurse?....Your liver and kidneys will process whatever is in your bloodstream regardless of how it is ingested. Where is this other place substances get processed?

It's scary that you call yourself a nurse while being ignorant to basic human anatomy and physiology.

Oh...maybe you're an LPN, or MedTech, CNA? Maybe YOU should do some Googling.

One of the worst experiences I have ever seen happened with a young guy in my NA class. He was an ex heroin addict and was currently detoxing from methodone. He would inject ritalin because it made him feel better while going through opiate withdrawls. Anyhow, he would have a hard time hitting veins because his veins were destroyed from years of heroin abuse. He missed the vein with ritalin or partially missed, i dont really know....but anyhow he got some of the liquid and filler under his skin and outside the vein. He said he used a filter when drawing it up, but there must have been some filler or something in it. His arm swelled up like a balloon and he couldn't even touch it it was so red and painful. Eventually he went to the emergency room and they immdeiatly put him on IV anti-biotics. After a couple days, there wasn't much improvement so they put him on a stronger anti-biotic and took a cat-scan of the arm or mri...I forget. Long story short...they had to amputate and he lost his left arm from the elbow down. This may have been because he didn't have hardly any good veins, but why take the risk?? Even after heating and filtering there was enough stray matter to cause a huge abcess and infection. It was pretty ironic that this guy injected heroin for 15 years, and ritalin caused him to lose an arm.

Anyhow I havn't seen the guy in an NA meeting for months, I am told he is back on the sh*t from emotional trauma and pain from losing the arm. I guess the point of this story is that its just as dangerous to inject pharmaseudicals not intended for injecting as it is to inject street drugs if not more dangerous. At least some street drugs are designed with the intent of injection. Also from what I'm lead to believe Injecting ritalin causes deterioration of lung tissue and cappilaries (the blood carries it to the lungs to be spread out to the rest of body) and will result in emphysema. In a study...it caused a non-fixable form of emphysema in 100 of patients that injected over the course of a couple months ( ). Not to mention the normal risks of injection such as stress on the pulmonary system, buildup and clogs in the veins from injecting stray matter, and diseases such as hepatitus, hiv, etc. Also keep in mind that by mixing a chemical in water in a spoon, who knows what bacteria, dust, pollen, etc. is getting drawn up and put right into the blood stream.

By directly injecting it there are several dangers. By injecting you are bypassing your body's natural defense systems for disease and infection. Your skin is there for a reason, to protect stuff from getting in your body. Also the saliva, digestive system, etc. protects you from stray matter when ingesting the drug. Be smart about stuff. No one is invincible.

This is exactly right. There is a process called first pass metabolism by the liver that actually makes ingestion versus IV use different in the way that it is metabolized by the liver. Check your facts before you bash someone.

Hey A.E.R. ***edited by moderator*** ** inappropriate posting**... because when something is taken orally the liver has time to process/break down these toxins before they enter the bloodstream... When you inject something directly into your bloodstream, it hits all your vital organs immediately without any filter (like the liver). Injecting something has a higher potentiality for being lethal because of this. For example, if you were to inject the amount of nicotine in one cigarette directly into your bloodstream, it would kill you. Not to mention all the possible fillers you may be gettting in your bloodstream. Fillers are the bits of un-organic sh*t that they put in medicine to give them their firmness and shape. Some of these fillers can be bad for you if not ingested orally. Some can build up over time in certain ares of your body and cause problems. Im sorry, but you are wrong and the nurse is correct.. So... basically you should stop injecting that sh*t... just take it orally. I don't crush it up make a tea, or a fruit drank or whatever.

^ This story is pulled from "Requiem for a Dream".
Either way, don't do drugs. If you are anyways, make a appointment with your physician and ask him what is the safest way to do it.

Wow a.e.r...who is the ignorant one now? I'm in nursing school and I literally learner YESTERDAY that medications taken intravenously go straight to the blood stream and body and skip the liver process. Thats why they take effect so quickly. How about you pull out your tampon and know your facts before you get all pissy on a professional.

That wasn't the question asked.

Dr.H. I really hope English is not your first language! I'd be extremely worried if my physician spelt like you! Also, birk? Yea, yea dead bad and all, pretty sure you didn't post for a lecture though. I'm sure you've considered the consequences. I work in pharmaceuticals and for two months past the exp. on rit you should be fine, the effect will just be reduced.

To whom it may concern,

The drug may still go through your liver; however, it is not processed the same as if you ingest it. It would be a lot easier to solve medical problems and to treat individuals if it didn't matter how the drug was introduced to one's body. Please do not advise anyone in fields of practice in which you have little or no experience. This can not only misinform but could cause serious problems for those who trust your misguided advise. I don't mean to be harsh. I simply want serious questions/ issues like these to be handled and answered properly, even if they must be answered on a website like this.

I apologize for any rudeness in this reply, I mean no offense.

Thank you,

There is something called first pass affect. when drugs are ingested orally , from the intestine they pass through the liver, where they may be morphed
