I'm 46 years old about 5 months ago I started my period and bled for 3 months without stopping.  I went to my gyno and had a d&c performed to remove polyps and that worked for about 6 weeks.  At six weeks I started again and have been bleeding for 4 weeks now, my doctor suggests removing my uterus, I'm a little leery and I'm not really sure why.  Has anyone had their uterus removed?  What type of symptoms does it produce?  I think if I am having this happen and I get it removed, how am I going to know if there is anything wrong?  At least with the bleeding I know something is askew, without that I am wondering what will take the place of bleeding incessantly.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Guest,

That would be a hysterectomy, the removal of the uterus.  I urge you to get another opinion.

Hysterectomies are fairly common.  It is usually considered as the last option as it will render your infertile.  The ovaries may/may not be removed at the same time.

How much of the uterus would they remove?  They can do a partial which leaves the cervix.

Sorry but without knowing your full history that's about all I can offer at this time.

Hope it helps.
