To answer your original question, the only way the procedure will straighten your nose is if the septum is what's causing the cosmetic look of the nose. If it's something else that's causing it to not be straight, then a rhinoplasty would be needed to straighten it. That something your doctor can tell you.
The surgery was a breeze. I was sore the night of the surgery. I took the pain meds for the first three nights to sleep, but otherwise took Tylenol for the first week and was comfortable. The worst part of the experience was the cutting of the stitches. It was not uncomfortable to have the splints removed...just the cutting of the stitches for some reason. I felt amazing after the splint removal and cried when I could breathe through my nose. The next day my body was completely overcome by fatigue...I just felt wiped out. Each day felt better and better after that.
I am almost a full month post op and my nose looks great and feels great. The discharge is still surprising...mornings are the worst. It looks like aliens deposited green slime in my nasal passages, but once I use saline spray in the morning I am up and running. Would 100% recommend the septoplasty and turbinate procedure. I had no idea what I was missing! Good luck!!
I’m so glad I found this site . I’m on day 2 also. I did great before, during & after surgery I was very weapy in the recovery room after anesthesia which never had happened before but the nurses were so nice Thank God. I have no pain at all on my left side, but my right side which is bleeding a lot w/a bunch of clots is more irritating than painful. I have been changing my gauze every 2hrs. It’s hard only breathing thru mouth haven’t gotten used to that yet. Now it’s only 7am here & the day is just beginning. I did take a pain med at 3:00am. I’m finding more uncomfortable than pain. Good news is I can actually already breathe more air in on my left side I’m amazed. 1 thing I have to do today is re-read the post op directions. I’m on keflex & pain meds, I have a feeling I will need the pain meds today . I’m prone to anxiety, so I am struggling w/that a bit more than usual but I think that’s to b expected. I’m going to keep in touch . Wish everyone quick healing & recovery & a big Thank you to all who shared their stories .
Day 3 and 4 were the worst for me, but in saying that it was more just uncomfortable rather than pain, as if I had a decent cold. The mouth breathing didn’t bother me as that’s how I breathed anyway since I could remember, I’m in the process of teaching myself to use my nose now, my sleeping pattern has improved out of sight, and my energy levels have sky rocketed because of it. Overall considering I feel this good after only 2 weeks, I couldn’t be happier with my decision to do this.
My main tips would be
1. Just accept you have to do nothing and heal! Forget trying to do things and just look after yourself
2. Eat HEALTHY, plenty of vegetables fruits and quality protein, this will help you heal quicker and easier, also plenty of water, Ditch the soda, treat your body like a high performance mechine.
3. Don’t stress if you bleed for a few days, if it’s a heavy constant flow GO TO THE HOSPITAL ASAP, but if it’s a little trickle here and there, it’s fine, your saline nasal washes will help
4. Keep in schedule with your nasal washes, it’ll stop blood and mucus drying up in your nose making it uncomfortable, my Doc has me doing them every hour for the first week during day light hours, and I’m glad I did, I never had any crusting issues, after your rinse, use a Q tip to drag out discharge and clots from your nostrils, it’ll keep it cleaner. Just be careful of your stints. PS Stint removal doesn’t hurt at all, ask for the numbing spray if you’re worried, but it is painless, rather it’s an odd sensation for something that large to be pulled from your nose.
5. Probably the most important BE POSITIVE, you’ll feel uncomfortable and maybe have a little pain, and you’ll be stuffed up and can’t use your nose at all, but try to focus on the long term picture, in a few months if everything has gone as it should, you’re going to be a different person, so try to stay positive during your healing process, results won’t be instant, but a positive mind set will set you up for a pleasant surprise once you begin to reap the benifits.
