I had septoplasty on 8/15/16 by Dr. Nithin Adappa at HUP in a Philadelphia. The surgery went well. The first 4-5 days post surgery were bad because of the swelling and stents in my nostrils. By the 5-6th day the pain was pretty much gone and was only dealing with discomfort in my nose because of the stents and boogies (for lack of a better word) that got lodged inside of the stents which made breathing a task. The stent were removed on 8/22 and it was Instant relief. I never felt my nostrils so free in my life. Long story short I'd suggest the surgery to anyone who feels their nasal breathing isn't up to par.

i just wanted to say thank you so much for posting this. I am on day 4 post surgery and feeling a bit discouraged. Though my breathing has not been good most of my life due to deviated septum, I was starting to wonder if all this discomfort, pain, and stress is worth it after having surgery. I know I can't go back, so trying to be positive. You described so much of what I am going through and so it is nice to know that it is normal and that it gets better. Thank you!

im having the same this weekend. Have been a mouth breather for as long as i can remember because of the lack of air thru my nose. Also addicted to decongestant spray rely on it 6-8 times a day just to breath a little easier. Always tired /wake several times a night to spray nose or have water (from mouth breathing) / fatigue so easy during exercise not to mention the headaches ect!
Reading ur comment has helped allay a little some of the anxiety!

I had it done 3 months ago. Absolute nightmare! Recovery took a month, couldnt sleep because my sinuses dried up. After the stents were removed, The dr noticed a perforation. Went to have to fixed 3 months later (dec 15th) That didnt work and now the hole is more than double in size and also another perforation formed. I now have nasal whistling and constant blockage of my left sinus due to improper air flow. I wish I could go back in time and not have gotten the surgery! Now it will cost at least 10 grand to get a reputable dr and its only 90% successful...

The packing feels like they shoved a surf board up your nose. Outwardly nose looked the same. Can breathe out of BOTH nostrils for first time I can remember. Boogers the size of a very large pistachio.

My Dr. Did My Septum but we also did Rhinoplasty to. I caught a Hard Ball with my face. I couldn't breath because the inside was Like cracked Egg Shells. No Regrets. Have Beautiful Results and I sleep Like a kitten Now. Surgery was Easy Peezee! Recovery Was Exceptional. I did Make one request before they put me under. We had talked about narrowing the tip more, but I changed my Mind because My Nose was very similar to My Dad's and I couldn't do it.

I had septoplasty and turbinectomy on Thursday, today is Sunday. I think the most frustrating part of this is not being able to breathe through my nose yet, and all the issues mouth breathing is causing me. Mouth breathing is affecting my sleep, which affects everything else I wake up and my entire mouth and tongue are bone dry.. My appetite and taste buds are off. I think the worst thing the mouth breathing does is that it triggers my anxiety and brings on panic sensations. I get the stents/splints out tomorrow, so I'm hoping for a big turn towards the positive. The pain has been tolerable since yesterday, but was a 10/10 the first day. I am hopeful for a positive final outcome so that this surgery will have been worth it. I did not have rhinoplasty done, so my doctor said the outside shape of my nose would not change. Best wishes to anyone considering this!

After the operation when I stood up I immediately got nauseous. I threw up blood several times, could not hold down food or water. This is day 2 after the operation and the worst part is the pain in my TEETH! ALL of my teeth are in excruciating pain, even my tongue. It's horrible, but I'm glad the days are moving along. Closer to DONE. Thank you Jesus!

This is almost identical to my recovery (post op 6 days so far). Thanks for the details and reassurance. Looks like your surgery was over a year ago so hope all going ok now

I am 7 days post-op. Your story reflects mine very closely. Each day that I heal the more positive thoughts I have on the surgery. It's not intense pain, screaming in agony, asking for morphine pain. It's just a constant pressure built up and relentless. I felt like the pain meds never did much but make me constipated. I'm still too early in the recovery to say I'm glad I did this. I'm optimistic that one day I'll say it was well worth it. You are a year out from the surgery I'm very curious to know how you feel about it all now. I guess I'm looking for some hope.

I had septoplasty and turbine reduction two months ago. I have a small hole in my nose from the stitch. I don't really believe I needed the septoplasty because it wasn't that bad on my left side but he did it any way. My nose is now whistling and my breathing is no better. I'm concerned about the hole. I went to see the Dr yesterday and he told me to use an anitibacterial ointment in there for the next 6 weeks...also to use my singular at night and clariton in the am. He didn't seem to worried about this hole but I am. Did anyone else have a hole and will this close on its own? The stitches were in just 4 days. Thor and the slings came out.

I had my septoplasty and turbinate adjustment done 2 and a half weeks ago. I took two weeks off of work. I'm feeling shakey all of the time and my stomach hurts sometimes. I asked a doctor about this and he said it's normal and since I'm older (52) it sometimes takes a little longer to recover. Have you all felt like this?

I had a septoplasty done a couple of days ago. My nose is slightly straighter. It’s still swollen, so I have yet to see the final outcome, but it does appear straighter, and my friends and family agree. I could show you a before and after pic if you want it. It’s the best option when you don’t have the money for a septorhinoplasty.

Ok maybe I'm weird- I have a high pain threshold and my nose wasn't that bad to begin with-it doc said on a scale of 1-10, hbby was a 7 in blockage and I was a four.

The surgery and recovery were nonevents for me. Hubby was surprised too at how easy it all was.

My teeth are killing me. I want to knock them out with a hammer. Will the pain ever resolve?
