I'm nervous about blood glucose testing. Does anyone have any good advice? I'm not looking forward to constantly stabbing myself with a needle to test and I'm not even sure I know how to do it right. The nurse showed me and all I can remember is that every time I do it I'm stabbing myself. Those needles hurt!

How are you doing it?

They gave me a pen type thing that can be adjusted for different length strikes. I found I got blood on the lowest setting and it didn't hurt at all.

Where are you doing it?

They gave me all sorts of choices all over my fingers. I can just choose whatever spot I like best.

Now that I've gone over that I also need to say that I stopped doing it because the readings were always within the proper range and in seemed kind of dumb to keep doing it. I was recently forced to get a new doctor due to Obamacare ( so much for that "if you like your doctor you keep your doctor" lie). I told her about that and she said that wasn't a very reliable test anyway and it's mainly for people who have a huge discrepancy in blood sugar like a full blown diabetic where the readings are up in the hundreds.

Mine were always between 90 and 120 but the glucose blood test on a blood workup was slowly rising over the years and was up to 6.2 when they gave me the test kit at the VA. I think maybe they had a special on those kits at the VA that year because they have never mentioned the fact that I have never ordered any refills.
