I am on methadone and have been for 4 to 5 years before that I was on it for three years. I went off of it for a year while I was pregnant with my son. I am disabled since birth and have lots of pain. I have tried many thing such as other medications, physical therapy, self hypnosis, and acupunctur with nothing relieving it as much as methadone. I have a lot of trouble with my primary doctor getting my medicine filled every month so I frequently go through withdrawl from time to time and I'm unsure if I'm making the right decisions. I am very scared and I feel like giving up sometimes. The only thing keeping me here are my loved ones. All I want is to feel ok. Any ideas?!?
Well, it seems crazy to have a doctor that can't keep up with your prescriptions on a consistent basis when we're talking about a medication where missing even a few days can have serious negative consequences. The methadone itself shouldn't make any health problems worse other than the well known side-effects (apnea issues, sex drive killer, etc.), but having to be under constant stress because of regular bouts of withdrawal could certainly do a number on you.
