So, I'm 24 and all my life I've had abnormal periods. I would skip a couple months between my cycles, until I went on bc. I got pregnant and have not really been able to get back on the pill, but my periods have been more normal, coming every month. Just recently, the last time I started my period, it started as it always does, heavy. After a couple days it slows down and gets lighter. This time, after it got lighter, it got heavier again. Once I had my period for two weeks, I went to the hospital and got a pelvic exam. Now, two weeks later, going on a whole month of having my period, the flow is very light. I don't have to wear a pad and there's slim to no stains on my underwear. However, after I use the bathroom, there's blood on the toilet paper and sometimes small clots in the toilet. I was doing some research about this and I'm worried I might have cancer of some kind or something. However, when I was in the hospital, I was given a pelvic exam. If there had been some cause of concern after the exam, wouldn't I have been told then and there, or gotten a call?

Please help me! I'm very worried and scared.
The problems you are experiencing with your periods definitely point to kind of hormonal imbalance that could be caused by polycystic ovaries, but this type of problem cant't be diagnosed by pelvic exam - you would need to get an ultrasound of lower abdomen. And the fact that hormones from the birth control did help with the condition points even more to PCOS, rather than some kind of cancer. SO, basically, BC pills still are the treatment that would help you regulate your periods, even though it would be better if you confirmed with ultrasound what exactly is going on.
