OMG I have been suffering from exactly the same thing for years. It can be caused by alcohol or food and only needs to be a sip or small amount of food to have this reaction on an empty stomach. I get really bad stomach pain and right shoulder pain. I have to lie down for 15 minutes until it passes and then I'm fine. Did you find the answer? Very interested to know? Have been to doctors and then just said it could be dehydration.

It sounds like pancreatitis for sure.it is very painful and alchol triggers it

I very rarely drink alcochol now and I still get this pain. It seems to be related to exercise too. It's definitely not pancreatitis.

I would agree right side pain and shoulder pain suggests gallbladder it doesn't have to mean stones can just be aggravated

I have severe stomach pain and right shoulder pain that comes on in an instant. Have had for many years. I wonder if coffee could be a trigger. I rarely drink it but had half a cup just now and it came on suddenly again. I take my medications on an empty stomach so I don't see a correlation

Interesting. I've described this to friends but always gotten looks like I was crazy. For me, my stomach won't hurt, but both my shoulders will ache, and I usually overheat and get sweaty even if not doing anything. It's almost always triggered by alcohol for me, especially when mixed with acidic juices, like lemonade.

Coffee could definitely be the culprit. I had been having excrutiating pain in my left shoulder. It was almost healed until I had a cup of coffee, then weeks of treatment appeared to be for nothing and I was back to feeling as horrible as I did the first day. Fortunately, I was able to figure out what had changed in my diet. Note - when I follow the Furhman diet strictly, I can drink small quantities of coffee with no pain. However, if I cheat even a little, then I have bad effects that last for days - not minutes. I do have a hiatal hernia and have been told that coffee is a trigger for pain.

I am 35 i have had the exact pain since i was 13 or 14. When i was in my teens i noticed it happened if i drank sprite or coke on an empty stomach. As i got older it happened with certain alcohol, i just had a long island ice tea an the pain hit me like a ton of bricks. Its a burning in my stomach an both shoulders but you mainly feel it in the right. Im glad im not the only one my friends use to say i was crazy or making it up. It will last anywhere from 5 min to an hour. It has also happened on a full stomach but not as often as on an empty stomach.

You might have gallstones. Thats what happened to me and the pain was unbearable. It literally felt like someone was taking my stomach and wringing it out like a wet towel. I was in the ER for 3 days in a row before they did surgery on me the next day. The Dr showed the pics of it to my husband and he said it was all black and green so it definitely needed to come out. Its not something to fool around with either. If it ruptures it can be life threatening. Hope this helps and you can get down to the bottom of it all.
