Alright you. Any educated person knows that the drugs that are illegal today were at one point legally prescribed. Eventually, someone will sue someone, and they'll declare the drug illegal. Then, people who are addicted will find a way to manufacture it on their own, so heavy is their addiction. A person would figure out how to get it despite its illegality, hence, the population of people addicted to illegal drugs, which were once legal. I don't have any personal experience with the drug, so I can't say first hand whether or not its addictive. Seeing as history repeats itself though, I'd bet it is and it would be better if emotional issues were coped with naturally. Maybe I don't have enough emotional issues to understand the allure of drugs, but from my experience, it's not good to rely on them.

My doctor prescribed me Vyvanse. I have read that it is not as effective as Adderall but it is harder to abuse, and doesn't any long term side effects, which was a huge relief for me to hear as I have always been very skeptical about taking anything that is so controlled by the FDA . My doc also recommended that on the days that I thought I didn't need to do much, I could and should skip it, so that my body didn't get used to it, because it then looses its strength... and then I would probably need a higher strength. I highly recommend that you ask your son's doctor about Vyvanse if you are concerned about Adderall.

That is true. But sometimes people have conditions that have nothing to do with emotional issues. It's more of a chemical imbalance, and that's where the drugs come in. A good doctor should know the difference between the two.

Anyway, I believe Adderall is not addictive. As I read on a post below, I also believe that it might cause psychological dependency, not physical dependency. But then again, that's my personal opinion. I actually take Vyvanse, which is a fairly new drug. My doctor has told me that there are no long-term side effects with this drug, and I have read that it is harder to abuse. He did say that on the days when I didn't have to study or work, I could skip it. The problem with (I believe 'most') prescription drugs, is that your body will eventually get used to the dosage, so it looses its effect. When this happens, you will probably need to be prescribed a higher strength, and you don't want that do happen. To anyone who is taking these type of drugs.. (for ADHD) I recommend that you only take them when you really really need them, and rest a few days a week.

I am 18 and took adderall for two and a half years. i am very strong minded so was able to stop pretty easily, but the withdraw from it made everything not seem worth it. I didn't abuse the drug at all, but found that it was turning me into a different person. The worst part about the drug is that people around you will like you better when on the drug. It made me feel like, me off the drug was not sufficient to peoples expectations and that i just wasn't as good of a person off the drug. When i went off of it i had zero motivation to do anything, my dad had to take me on a trip to Canada to get my emotions straightened out. It was difficult but through know that my dad was there and his love really helped me out. The best thing to do if you have adhd/add is to excersize, have a healthy diet and a consuming hobby and to try meditating. The meditating is a huge one because people with adhd like me have racing thoughts, and as soon as you can completely harness your thoughts you can defeat it. I have alot of energy and love that i do. i am blessed. If you are a mother trying to deal with a kid with adhd, you first have to accept his positive energy and know that he has so much positive energy and to get something that he can vent it with. avoid video games and try and make it a sport i fell in love my sports. Good Luck:-D

Regardless of taking adderall trying meth once for someone who has never done or even seen any other drug can instantly get you hooked. Meth is extrememly addictive and has nothing to do with Adderall.

Knowing this first hand, I would say adderall is very addictive. I have been perscribed adderall for a little over 4 years, and now if I am to forget to take it I'll sleep all day and have no happy emotion. Adderall also is very emotionaly harsh when coming off of it. It's caused me to have seveer depretion, and has made me suicidal at times. (pardon my spelling) Adderall has done me more harm than good, and I would suggest taking your child off of it. It may help your kid in school, but it helps him by getting him high. Adderall yaks you out, which is why it has such good affects in school. It's a scary drug to be giving to children.

hey im not a doctor or a parent. I'm 25 year old student who just graduated with his masters.  growing up I got really into cocaine and the party life style.  I stopped doing that at about 20.  When studies got really hard I turned to adderal because I figured it would help.  Let me tell you i was blown away by how similar cocaine and adderal really are.  STUNNING that doctors prescribe this to children, kids, teenagers.  It's obviously cleaner and over the counter yadda yadda yadda.  But i borderline encourage you to try cocaine and then take a an adderal.  Especially if you're feeding it to your kid.

Just putting my opinion out there - your ovbs a good parent researching feedback.

I wouldn't call it addictive, I was prescribed adderall for my depression/anxiety and it definitely works but it's not something I crave like an addict, that being said it does produce somewhat of an emotional high which is really good feeling, as far as being addicting though I can't say it's ever had that kind of effect on me.

Cheri, you are a good mom to be so observant. There are many other meds he can take for ADHD or ADD or depression, depending on what his diagnosis is.

Agreed. At 46, I suspected ADHD was the cause for me being so scattered. After investing 4 months and $5000 in testing, I was diagnosed with ADHD no hyperactivity. 10mg adderall twice a day was prescribed. That was three years ago. It has made an incredible positive impact on my life. I often chose not to medicate on weekends. Honestly, I forget to take the second dose some days. From all the negative press about adderall, I would suggest having a competent diagnostician administer testing. The executive functioning test seem to be foundational for diagnosis. Best of luck to all of you.

I honestly think adderall is the least addictive drug there is. I tried it once (recreationally also) and I will never do it again

Is all Adderall the same or does one company put something in it which another doesn't? I think the peach-colored Adderall works better than the pink ones. Does the company that makes it have any effect on that?

Is Adderall addicting? I heard it is reacting with brain. What had been anyone's experience with Adderall? I've read it is the equivalent of cocaine or meth in the way it reacts in the brain.
