Hello, Sue. Welcome to SH!

It is possible for a screw to come loose after a bunion operation, even years after the surgery. However, the likelihood of this happening depends on a variety of factors, such as the type of screw used, the placement of the screw, and the level of activity of the patient.

In general, screws that are used in bunion surgery are designed to stay in place for many years, and it is uncommon for them to come loose. However, if a screw is not placed properly during the surgery, or if there is excessive stress placed on the foot over time, it is possible for the screw to loosen.

If you are experiencing pain or discomfort in your foot, it is important to speak with your doctor or the surgeon who performed your bunion operation. They can examine your foot and determine whether a loose screw is causing your symptoms. If a loose screw is identified, it may need to be removed or replaced to alleviate your discomfort and prevent further damage to your foot.
