I am 29 years old and they have discovered i have had 2 old lucnar strokes.  They can't tell me when and I have no residual.  My concern is that I am getting married next year and want to try for one more baby.  I also have ITP which complicates things since they can't put me on any blood thinners.  I also have a stent in my left iliac vein and have chronic venous compression syndrome( may thuner syndrome).  I understand I will be pretty high risk but will they be able to place me on something prophylactically???

Hi I had my first massive stroke at age 21 (2010)due to a blood clot in the brain. I recovered well with only slight weakness to my left arm and partial deafness in left ear. Then at age 24 I had another stroke caused by a blood clot again. I recovered well from that one too with only my vision being affected leaving me short sighted. I then fell pregnant 2 weeks after the second stroke. The pregnancy has been difficult but the obgyn, midwives and stroke consultants have been taking really good care of me. I am now 35 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy. Pregnancy after stroke is very possible. Hope I have given some hope to the victims wishing to conceive xxxx

I am 32 years old and suffered a stroke this past July. I am less than six months into recovery and my hsband and I want children. I don't ovulate naturally, so I would need hormones and my normal gyno said I will never be able to use any form of hormone therapy again (birth control, fertility drugs, etc). I have a fertility specialist I see once a year and she has no idea I had a stroke yet. I won't see her until April and part of me is afraid to ask about getting pregnant, because I'm afraid of the answer. My stroke was caused by a blood clot in my left ventrical that was dislodged during an angiogram and no I have weakness on my right side (vision, movement, use of a cane now, etc, etc, etc). My heart breaks to know there are so many young survivors out there and at the same time, I am greatful to know I am not alone in this recovery journey and my wish to have a family.

My wife suffered a massive stroke in December of 2011 at the age of 32. She had a rare tumor in her heart that caused the stroke. She had a craniectomy to relieve pressure from the stroke and open heart surgery to remove the tumor. One year after her stroke, we found out she was pregnant. Her pregnancy went on without any complications. She gave birth naturally and without a epidural. We now have a beautiful and healthy 5 month old baby girl. My wife is still in physical and speech therapy, has little use of her right arm and walks with a AFO and a cane. Now every person is different, but it is possible to have children after a stroke.

I found your reply really interesting as I had a stroke almost two years ago (at 28) and the Doctors can't find any issues with my blood to cause clotting either (they did find a hole in my heart, but its closed now). I'm preparing to have a baby with my husband and my GP says to stop aspirin for the duration of the pregnancy (I'm on 100mg per day).
Its a little scary though, I have to admit. Was your pregnancy smooth and did it all go ok? Hope you're feeling well!
Were there any other resources you found to help? Its so hard to find information on this situation... any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had a stroke at 28 and i am now 30. My stroke was caused by high bloodpreshure and i was told that it would be unsafe for me to carry child. That if i had another stroke while prego the baby could be killed. This not only broke my heart but the dream for my husband to produce a child. It was harder for me to deal with this news compaired to the dr saying u may never walk or move you left side again. I have sences regained all movement and will always have nerve damage on my left side of my body. So in my opionon dont get ur hopes up like i did by reading blogs bc everyone is different. Go and talk to a specialest

I had a severe stroke at 11 was completely paralysed on my left side ( including face). 12 years later I can walk but nowhere near correctly and have some function in my arm but none in my hand, have very poor balance. My whole left side is still weak. I desperately want kids one day but am not sure if I could cope with motherhood due to the extreme fatigue I still suffer from as a result of the stroke.

Hi Laura,
Hope your pregancy went great and you had a speedy recovery. I would like to know what the doctor told you in regards to taking the aspirin? I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant taking aspirin as well. Will be seeing a doctor in two days!
